Do Lifetime Warranties On Auto Parts Really Make Sense?

In the last few years, I've had to make claims on some lifetime warranty parts through Napa and the guys at the counter have always made a fuss about it. Sometimes to the point where I had to complain to an upper manager just to get the part replaced. The warranty terms appear to be written in a...

    Installing Brake Pads

I've had this happen multiple times and it's not a rust problem. I'm guessing it's because when the brake pad manufacturer designs the pads, they don't account for the thickness of the paint when they dimension the ears. That extra bit of thickness is enough for the ears to not fit in the caliper.

The YouTube Ford Tech Makuloco makes the case for a 3000 mile oil change on the Ford.Ecoboost

Wondering where the rule of thumb for 3K oil changes on a turbo come from? Especially if it's with synethetic oil. Many manufacturers (especially in Europe) seem to be spec'ing long OCIs even on their turbo'd engines. Is there something inherently different on newer turbo engines that allow them...

    Centric Posi Quiet Ceramic Pads

That's weird. I'm at 90,000 kms on my Posi Quiets for a Ford Ranger done 6 years ago and they're still working fine. Will probably change them out in the next 10-20,000 kms though. I have no complaints about these pads but next time will probably go for semi-metallics just for better performance.

Current gen Honda Ridgeline quality (and water leak issue specifically)

Not to derail, but I'm curious since everyone touts the Ridgeline for ride quality. How is it for road noise compared to the typical domestic truck? Unibodies typically transmit more noise and Hondas have never known to be particularily quiet. I personally prefer a quieter ride over softness...

Sealant for paper water pump gasket (High Tack not working??)

I've always just installed gaskets dry because that's what Fel Pro recommends. With paper gaskets, I did notice once I was getting minor seepage but after a month it went a way. I'm assuming that was because the gasket takes some time to set and expand a little from the water contact.

coolant change interval all of the place

For an OCD person, the (lack of) Hyundai recommendations for coolant are super frustrating. Similarly, in the manual for my Genesis Coupe there is no spec or details on the coolant type other than the obvious suggestion that it should be 50/50 ethylene glycol. The time interval is listed as 5...

    Best 75w90 for the money?

I don't think there's any proof or testing that has ever suggested there to be any noticeable difference over the course of a vehicle's lifespan in using a cheap vs expensive gear oil, provided that the vehicle is serviced and not abused. Similar to the argument over motor oils. If it meets spec...

Napa Vehicle Specific Coolant vs OEM Brand (Reochem)

As an example, what confused me was for the 2015 Grand Caravan application, the Napa branded orange coolant lists it as meeting Chrysler MS-12106: https://www.napacanada.com/en/p/RCO49604OGM Whereas the OEM brand does not...

Napa Vehicle Specific Coolant vs OEM Brand (Reochem)

Up here in Canada for vehicle specific coolants, we have the OEM brand from Canadian Tire and also Napa has their store brand vehicle specific coolant. Both are made by Reochem and have the same color branding, but they are slightly different regarding the specs they list and also the vehicle...

Rain-X Spot Free Car Wash. Any other similar washes?

I don't know when those "deep" water spots are manifesting, but this has been a problem for the last decade on my grey vehicle. Often times (in the winter), I'm only doing a pressure washer soap + spray down to get rid of salt and it's not feasible to always do a proper wipe down. Or in the...

Rain-X Spot Free Car Wash. Any other similar washes?

Got some Rain X Spot Free Car Wash on sale this week and WOW what a pleasant surprise. I've always been used to having to do a wipe down after rinsing to get rid of water spots, but with this car wash, I literally only had to rinse it off and there are almost NO water spots afterwards. This is...

    Fel-Pro PermaDryPlus t-stat gasket and 2-EHA?

Is this for a Ford Vulcan 3.0 by any chance? I had the choice of using this gasket or a standard paper one but I noticed with this one, the way it would mate up to the housing surface...there was a raised ridge on the housing of which elastomer would have to be lined up perfectly for it to not...

Is it bad to put tire sealant as a permanent fix to a slow leak?

As per the title. I made the mistake of using a set of allow wheels for my winter tires. Although I personally wire brushed the bead sealing lip perfectly before installing my winter tires, 5 years later the tires have slow leaks in varying rates. I figure I have maybe 2-3 seasons left on these...

Hyundai/Kia engine failure info from a tech

So with all the controversy and recalls over the Theta engines, I'm wondering why the 2.0T on the Genesis Coupe never included? I thought this engine would've been similar enough to the others.

    How much weight for traction?

On a RWD Ford Ranger with studded winter tires, at about 300 lbs or more is when I start to tell the difference in rear traction. It's absolutely beneficial IMO. The differences in braking distance are negligible so I don't quite buy that argument. Sometimes not being able to go is just as...

Pressure Washer Pump Rebuild Q: Using radial seals for axial movement?

It's definitely a seal leak. When I first caught it, I drain the oil and within the first use it got milky again.

Pressure Washer Pump Rebuild Q: Using radial seals for axial movement?

Hello, I'm attempting to rebuild my pressure washer pump (model #: BE RX710) of which the water has been getting into the oil, so I suspect there's a bad seal. This pump has a replacement parts kit (73.170.010) but it appears to be discontinued so I can't find anything. I measured the...

    Gaskets and High Mileage Oil

I've never been able to notice anything from running a HM oil. Currently have a Ford 3.0 that doesn't leak, but does consume oil which i suspect may be some minor burning. Doubt a HM oil would help with that.

    Oldest battery (ICE vehicles)?

I have a battery tester so will just replace when the CCA rating is too degraded. Had a 10 year old OE battery on my Hyundai that was working just fine but the CCA rating was 50% of new. It was only summer driven the last few years, but now will be winter driven so I figure better to replace it...
