    Ravenol VSE 0/20 (VW 508), 7,300 Miles, 2019 VW Jetta 1.4t (73,000 Total)

Fascinating comparing the results! I might have to try some Ravenol eventually.

    Valvoline Restore & Protect 5W30 | 2500 miles | 2020 Tundra

I'll have a 5100 mile report from a Volvo by next week.

Rollback period is over for Havoline, M1 and Pennzoil at Walmart

That's why I did drive-up for Walmart sold oil and other car care products. Then they started having it where they had to scan your phone, and it became too much of a hassle for me haha. I loved getting those prices without the hassle of going inside. Now I'm back to ordering online.

    That's a good point. Strange.

Except that the wear was still pretty high on previous fill when silicon was much slower.

    Cybertruck experience...

I like that it's different. Something different in the sea of white, gray, or black SUVs. Pretty cool you got to check it out!

SuperTech Syn 0w-20 10,023 mi 21 Lexus NX Hybrid

4.3 TBN after 10,000 miles is still kinda impressive, even with the highway miles. Gotta make you feel good, great report! DSMDriver, may I ask how long after you sent the sample did you receive your report? I'm waiting on analysis and was curious on the current turnaround time. :)

What grade of HPL oil are you using?

If and when I switch to HPL, I'll get 5w40 Euro.

    Blackstone Prices

I agree with all above. That's very expensive for the slow service and unhelpful fuel numbers. I've used them a lot cause it's convenient getting a free kit and not the end of world if you lose it / mess it up. However, I'm probably moving away from them soon.

Useful Oil Analysis Frequency Every 10k Miles?

10,000 is too often for a UOA with regular maintenance, unless you're just curious / want to geek out at the numbers. I go back and forth between being that way and wanting to save the cash. If you're just curious you could send in this first oil sample, but it's going to have more break in...

I hate spending lots on UOAs, but the end of this change, or the one after, see if things are doing better or at least not getting worse. I don't think it's a given that you have a problem, things could be ok!

    The problems with GDI

I had read that the better part of twenty years ago, before Mercedes went Direct Injection, they tested having a reservoir of Techron in the engine compartment. It would periodically be applied to the backside of valves (perhaps mixed with some fuel? IDK). It seems they instead engineered...

2 Valvoline Restore & Protect tests

I don't want to be a downer on the product. I've been using too, and I'm happy for those who have had apparent success. Nevertheless, I do wonder how much the piston cleaning is down to the III H test (heat etc). Plus, they're starting with deposits accumulated by a III H test on a baseline...

Castrol GTX - is it really fully synthetic?

At first I thought it was conventional, but then I saw it was A5/B5. I'm thinking in UK, this particular product is synthetic. Very confusing though!

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

I didn't notice any difference with my Volvo's filter after 5100 miles on Restore and Protect. My hunch has always been if an engine has been well maintained, an early filter change is not necessary. I could be wrong, but my car didn't need it.

Switching to synthetic oil with exisiting leak - OK?

If you aren't going to fix the leak soon, I'd stick with the regular Maxlife and do regular oil changes.

Would the additive Molly make used oil darker?

It's not your air filters. Most likely it is something about that oil. Maybe the additives turn like you suggest, or maybe it cleans better. I don't think it's a concern at all.

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

I'd like to know how he explains UOAs with as little wear as any other oil (or lower).

Post a photo of your oil on dipstick (with miles)

If you're at around 1200 miles per quart now, can you remind me what you started out consuming before R&P?
