    ECU EPROM bit rot?

I've got MEM-CAL systems too. I may have to go look, I've got ECMs starting 1981. I didn't think I had a senior moment...

    ECU EPROM bit rot?

GM put them in every North American car gasoline engine computer (CCC) starting in 1981 from a Chevette to a Cadillac V8/6/4.

    Engine metal temperature sensor

GM used these on at least some of the Chevy 6s (194/230/250/292) too. My 292 has a very large diameter one, unlike the small diameter one used on the Cavalier (2.0L) engine. I assumed it was an 70s-80s GM inline engine thing.

    GM Color Code

That explains my confusion looking for the code on my 2019 Yukon (extra cost color). I only found it on the window sticker. Was afraid I'd end up with some color variant that was 'off', of some one year only thing.

Feds: Goodyear knew of defective RV tires as early as 2002

As an RV-er, I remember these being on the market quite well. They were sold through Camping World, advertised as an purposely made RV tire, IIRC. I remember ads for them in RV magazines as well. I looked at them as a replacement tire for our coach too. Stuck with the XPS Rib Michelins, which...

1974 GM seatbelt interlock system video

I do remember seeing the under hood switch on my Dad's '74 Vega. The system had long since been bypassed, like most '74s. That was a '74 Impala with no A/C in case anyone wondered.

OBD1 Code 21, Throttle Position Sensor

If it makes you feel any better, there are a lot less parts inside an electronic Quadrajet because of the electronic mixture control. I've got a 34 year old one (288K miles) that still has the original TPS. I believe there some sort of plug that must be removed to set/calibrate the replacement.

Where do you recommend to buy headliner fabric?

I changed the original failed headliner in my Caprice back in 1998. This replacement material had become terribly faded. Back in the days of automotive color, I could get material at the local fabric store. This time, I got it from https://www.yourautotrim.com/. They have quite a wide selection...

    A relic I inherited...

I was so happy to see those things go away in the mid '80s. I had a genuine concern seeing all those new plastic bottles in the store (I'm not an 'environmentalist', and there was no plastic recycling then), but the oil cardboard cans were a mess waiting to happen. The old cans would leak and...

Good Article from Holley on History of GM Transmissions from the ‘40s to Present

GM always called the 700 a 4 speed automatic but the 200 was a 3 speed with overdrive. I've always assumed it was because of the evolution of the 200 from a 3 speed, while the 700 was new.

Have the "Dexcool" coolant flushed out of your GM vehicle...

This car was around 230K, IIRC, unknown if it was original. Far longer than I could run our 60 degree V6 in all fairness. This engine had been weepy for years before I fixed it. As I understand it it, there was even a TSB about oil seepage on these when they were new. The fix was replacement of...

Have the "Dexcool" coolant flushed out of your GM vehicle...

'Craptastic' plastic GM intake gaskets in a 1992 (pre Dexcool) Buick V6. These never amounted to much and no improved replacements, AFAIK. I find it funny the 60 degree V6s, et al, got so much attention. I've got a 60 degree, Dexcool engine too. It was a lot more work to replace on that...

    Some internal pics over time

We've got a white w/maroon too ('96) that we bought new. Seems like a completely different car with the 3100 V6, as well as a lot of changes and additions to this old chassis. Some were not improvements. It's ready to turn 200K miles. I think about 3/5 of these were white or blue, a third were...

    Some internal pics over time

If it was a V6, it was the same 3300. This is the highest mileage one I've seen. Was actually in good condition and rust free. I'll guess transmission failure. Had 4 fairly new matching tires! I never did post an entire pic of the engine. Repairs are so much easier when they are clean.

    Some internal pics over time

Purchased this 1992 Buick Century from an elderly friend in 2014 with 186K miles on it. He was a 10w40 Havoline man and car has been well maintained. Original owner had it for the first 30K miles. Car had considerable notes on repairs since new. Unable to determine exact service intervals for...

Well written article on why ANY trans flush is bad

Too bad the franchise agreements don't prevent (or do they not enforce?) various, unapproved "wallet flush" service.

    3800 L67 bearings question

The N/A 3800s (and 3300s) are notorious for harmonic balancer failures that cause deep knocking sounds. I would assume (even though it has space for 2 belts) that the L67 is prone to the same issue. Take a look at the rubber bonding the inner and outer portions of the HB. Most people don't catch...
