Think my car will even notice?

He's referring to the new Mobil Super brand of oil that released in the USA. It comes in Mobil Super (conventional), Mobil Super High Mileage (semi-synth), and Mobil Super Synthetic (full synth). Its marketed as a low tier synthetic oil behind Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 EP. He is not referring to...

Any of you have your kids running track?

If heart conditions run in your family, it might not be a bad idea to have your daughter tested. I've heard of too many children dying during track and other athletic events due to underlying undiagnosed heart conditions...enlarged heart is probably the most common I hear.

    Molybdenum Disulfide Additive

I broke my car in the moto-man way, and at 100k it still doesn't have any appreciable oil consumption. I've never heard anyone buggering their motor using his method either. Let it warm up, then put the hammer down and get those rings sealed up!

Mobil HM thin yet still reduces consumption

Super HM supposedly is a great cleaning oil. It probably also includes a nice dose of seal swellers. Cleaning out dirty ring-packs and swelling old seals would certainly help curtail oil consumption.

Ford Ecoboost: flip flop on oil filter specs?

Probably because they found that the larger FL 2025 simply wouldn't fit on some trim models/configurations. Or perhaps there were other issues at work with the filter itself? Honestly though, I've never seen an engine design was greatly impacted by a filter choice OTHER then the effects of a...

Well, I don't know enough about this engine to comment on the bearings, but if they are indeed lead....then I'm still leaning towards particle streak. Honestly, I can't see why there would be lead in the UOA if it didn't have a lead bearing somewhere. Not unless they are using lead as an...

Does GF-5 trump GF-3 with a polorized ester?

RP isn't the only oil using Ester's either, though I can't comment on the specific ester type RP uses...whatever it is, I pretty sure its what they are referring to with their "synerlec" advertising. Anyways, IMO I would prefer the oil that has successfully past the greatest, and the most...

    Havoline 5w-30 SN

Didn't someone say that high amounts of moly in an oil would prevent it from passing the piston cleanliness test associated with the new GF-5 testing requirements? IIRC, 0w-20 oil was exempted from the test because of lobying on the part of an asain car manufacturer who loves using lots of moly...

Gotcha, thanks for the info. So I wonder what the lead is from?

Mac malware, it's now a reality

I use a PC, and refuse to run AV software as it's typically a resource hog. Been infection free for many many many years. It helps that I'm very tech savvy, and am running lots of various browser additions to keep my overall threat exposure low. The typical Mac user on the other hand has been...

I've heard the phrase particle streak used in instances like this. A small piece of grit gets taken for a ride through one of the bearings shedding some wear materials as it passes. Anyways, looks fine otherwise.

Exactly how does a bypass valve work?

Wow, that's actually sooner then I figured a bypass would open with that kind of oil...especially when clean.

    The true meaning of "W"

According to Valvoline, W stands for winter. If the SAE truly told Dr. Haas that W doesn't stand for winter, then surely they told him what it actually means, yet he didn't share this info. Did he mean to imply that it meant weight...as that was the topic of the thread, or was he simply bragging...

Best not to have soft skin on the internet. Remember, we're all experts here and our opinions are gospel never to be questioned or ignored. But it stinks people [censored] on your thread...best policy is to just ignore them and take the free bump.

    Purolator filters

Kemo...any motorcraft filter ending with an S has a silicone ADBV, 910s, 400s, 820s, 500s, to name a few. Also, most of the motorcraft filters I've encountered have threaded end bypass setups. FL1a, 910s, 400s, 820s, etc. The aftermarket equivalents seem to vary greatly, with most having a dome...
