    Review: 2025 BMW 530i

I'm strictly Toyota/Honda being a low risk guy and thus afraid of German cars. But my girlfriend has a 2020 X3 with the B48 it drives very nicely I must say. I drove a 2019 540i once for a few minutes. That engine/transmission combo is kind of amazing. Also seems to have been pretty reliable...

Any cars you regret buying? - My '14 CR-V experience

2012 Volvo S60. Burned oil, spastic and jerky transmission, AC failed at 30K miles and was so expensive to fix I decided to not even do it. One of my happiest days of the last several years was the day my neighbor smashed into it parked on the street and State Farm gave me an overly generous...

    2015+ Honda CRV

My dad has a 2012 CRV that I do the basic maintenance on. 105K miles it's been a great car. Very simple setup with the 2.4 engine and 5 speed transmission. Many don't like CVT's so it depends on how they feel about that on the newer ones 2015 or newer. The Honda CVT's are pretty good I think...

Post your Gas Mileage : Calculated

My 2014 V6 Accord with manual transmission gets me about 24mpg by the computer, closer to 23 if I use a calculator. Not bad not good. My last 3 cars have all been Japanese V6's. My 2013 GS 350 got 23, my 2015 Camry V6 got 27, and the Accord I have now gets 24. I don't have any freeway driving...

talk me out of a KIA STINGER

Don't drive it unless you are seriously thinking about it. I drove one and it was pretty impressive honestly. I would never chance it myself though, too many question marks with that brand.

These 10 year old tires look pretty good I think - Opinions?

Yup. The tightwad part hit home there. It's worth $1K for peace of mind and I'm not broke. The fact that I'm giving it a second thought means it makes more sense to switch them out. I'm gonna keep it below 65 and change them after Xmas. I think I'll get the All Season 4's looks like Costco...

These 10 year old tires look pretty good I think - Opinions?

Not sure about tire rotation, but I don't plan on rotating them I figure it's safer to have the older tires on the back. Cupping wise I don't think so, the car tracks very straight and smooth at all speeds.

These 10 year old tires look pretty good I think - Opinions?

Pics below. These are the rear tires are on my 2014 Accord. The fronts are 2020 year tires and these rear ones are the originals from the factory (dated 2014). The car has spent most of its life garaged in a tropical climate and has 22,000 miles on the odometer right now. If you zoom in on...

Honda J35 V6 Timing Belt Safe at 120k?

I'm in a similar position but a bit different. Mine is more or less the same engine but in a 2014 Accord. Mine was babied and kept in a garage in a very warm climate and only has 22K miles on it. I'm thinking I'll change it around 30 or 40K miles. Am I nuts?

2014 Honda J35 3.5 V6 engine Oil and OCI recommendations?

I have a V6 manual J series (J35Y2) which I know is not DI but I thought the J35Y1's were all DI engines??? I use 0W20 but am considering a heavier oil (5W20 or even 5W30) because I am in Hawaii so temps don't even go below 60.

Jescar Ultra Lock Plus: Great Stuff.

Nice! I have that exact car but it's a 2014 and black. The black paint is a bit of a pain. Previous owner had it graphene coated but it's getting a bit tired. I have the 3 in 1 Griot's sealant I was going to try but maybe I'll try the Jescar.

What’s your “sweet spot” for used car purchases?

Yes those are not efficient but oh well. Miss my GS but my accord is a solid ride. I'm in Hawaii regular is about 4.19 at Costco 4.75 at local stations.

What’s your “sweet spot” for used car purchases?

GS 350 and Tundra - that's a reliable couple of cars well played sir.

What’s your “sweet spot” for used car purchases?

Wondering how many here got your "non-pilau" reference. I'm leeward so not too worried about rust here in West Maui.

What era of cars has the right amount of tech - helpful but not distracting?

IMO I think it was around 10 years ago give or take. I seem to gravitate to cars (I don't care for SUV's in general) around model year 2015 give or take a few years depending on the manufacturer. I know many pine for the simplicity of the 90's and 00's, but I think the 2010's were peak...

Who else doesn't use tire dressings?

Chemical Guys sells a lot of garbage but VRP is good. Adds a subtle matte shininess and has a softening effect. Good stuff.

    Older Tires...Perfect Shape...What to do?

Hmmm interesting. I have a 2014 Accord. The front tires are 2020, the rears are 2014 original tires. The rears look good to me with no cracks and the car was garaged and lives in a warm climate (Hawaii). Seeing as it's front wheel drive is it still urgent to replace them?

    Reliable Modern Cars <$23k

Best cars IMO around this price range would be Lexus 2013-2018 ES 350 and 2013-2015 GS 350. The ES is nice but very boring and front wheel drive. The GS is an upgrade and comes with RWD or AWD and is only boring if compared to German cars (and who wants to deal with that?).

Filter change every other oil change - anyone doing it?

Oh wow that's a long interval. Now that I would be uncomfortable with. 5,000 miles for me. That's one of the reasons I am considering doubling up on the filter. If it is on for less than 1 year and 10,000 miles that's half the 20K listed as lifespan.

Wouldn't a manual transmission be better in city traffic?

I think it depends on your attitude toward driving. If you view your car as an appliance to get you from A to B a manual will drive you nuts in anything other than open road driving. If you like the experience of controlling your speed, optimizing momentum through slow traffic, and...
