Truck in shop closed by Covid

Exactly. Funny how we didn't do this sort of craziness or succumb to this kind of hysteria during the HK Flu of 1968-69, and civilization chugged right on.

The 17 year cicada is here. (locust) PIC HEAVY.

Not just a certain temp but humidity level too. It's gotten so I associate the horrible weather here with that sawing noise.

The 17 year cicada is here. (locust) PIC HEAVY.

I've got to listen to those things again? I've always thought that the sound they make is what a loony hears just before he puts the gun to his head. Or gets out on the Interstate, shuts his eyes, and rams his foot to the floor.

    What disturbs/angers you while driving?

Right -- reasonable accommodations, but the merger has to adjust to conditions too.

GetUpside app: Worth it, scam, other?

Yeah, that's why I'm suspicious. They say .25 off per gallon of gas, or about 9.5% cash back at the prices where I live.

    What disturbs/angers you while driving?

There's a big one, an elevated circle where two major boulevards (one a Federal highway) meet in the suburbs here. It's oriented to the compass points, NSEW, and so you don't really need the signs to tell you which exit to take . . . though of course I'm the only driver in this area who...

    What disturbs/angers you while driving?

Not to mention the crashing, screeching sound (I won't call it music) emanating from many such vehicles, to the point where *your* window glass vibrates. The driver of such a vehicle couldn't hear your horn if his life depended on it.

    What disturbs/angers you while driving?

I was taught way back in the '70s that, if you are on the main road, it is partly your responsibility to see the merging driver gets on safely. That doesn't mean veering wildly into the center lane; it might mean adjusting your speed up or down to let him in. But it is *partly* your...

    What disturbs/angers you while driving?

Simpler to ask: What doesn't? Aside from the usual elements that everyone has mentioned, there is the wondrous stench of this city, compounded of neglected garbage, moldy parmesan cheese, leaked motor oil, and rancid human sweat. Of course, for 10 months of the year I'm running with the A/C on...

GetUpside app: Worth it, scam, other?

I keep hearing radio spots for this, and looked it up. Some people rave about it. Some warn that the money they'd banked, the savings you're supposed to see from each gas station purchase (and even some grocery stores), vanished abruptly, and they had no recourse. It looks like a lot of hassle...

New Havoline or probably just a new label...

I wish I could find this 6-qt. box at my local WMs. Is their 5W-30 dexos certified? The previous 6-qt. box item was. I'm not too worried about it, as the LaCrosse is out of warranty, and I'm sure any name-brand 5W-30 synth would be fine in the Buick's engine. Just curious.

What Year Did you Start Using Synthetic Motor Oil?

Whenever the local dealer, where I went for oil changes and tire rotations every 6 months on my '11 Buick Regal, switched from synblend oil to full synthetic. I'm guessing around 2016. I never got to do a change on my '15 BMW 3 Series before it got flooded and totaled. But I've been using dexos1...

    2016-17 Audi Q5 2.0T AWD

My former boss told me today he just bought a new Audi Q5 (I think it was the 5). White over tan, it probably has more bells and whistles than he can count. It has the lane departure warning, the "something's coming up in your blind spot" flashing lights, and the auto stop start. He's not sure...

    Anyone rethinking auto decisions?

I'm back to driving my 25 miles round trip to work. I suppose that with gas prices on the increase, the 22 mpg of the big Buick will get to be annoying. But the car will be paid off this year; I can buy one heck of a lot of $3/gal. gasoline with that money. The vehicle is young -- only 48K...

    Thinking of buying a beater

In Lousy-ana, any discount would be dwarfed by the additional extortion the companies levy for each vehicle.

No Compass, What the heck ??!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first car with a built-in compass was the '03 Park Avenue. I wouldn't have paid extra for it had I ordered the car myself -- but I came to enjoy having the readout, which kept me from making wrong turns more than once on road trips. The Regal and the BMW 328i had one as well, and so does the...

Drive to Canyon and visit Palo Duro? The Comanches thought it was a great site for winter quarters.

    New Orleans

Across the street, near that light at Felicity Street, is where the infamous Warehouse, the music venue of the early '70s, was located. I never went to a concert there, and I'm glad I didn't. No air conditioning.

Moments from disaster.. share your stories

Come to think of it . . . I was heading back late one night from Ville Platte after my 6-to-midnight air shift at the radio station there. On a dark stretch of a state highway, I came around a curve and saw brake lights flare on the vehicle ahead of me. I slowed down in plenty of time. Then...
