@ARCOgraphite , not to throw you under the bus, but you were also one of the ones saying Toyo Roki in some of the old threads that I posted. I still say some of the older Subaru filters were labeled as "Toyo" even though I found a pic of Subaru filter from 2008 mentioning Tokyo. One Mazda...

Thanks. Missed that among the VW snow donut pics.

Well my search has turned up no evidence of a Toyo Roki Subaru oil filter. Only a Honda version. Even found old posts on other forums where I mentioned "Tokyo" and "Toyo (sp?)". And also an aftermarket Mazda company where they covered up the first part of the name on the filter. I'm gonna bump...

I distinctly remember the Subaru version as "Toyo". Maybe the early Subaru filters left out the "k". :ROFLMAO: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/toyo-roki-filter-specifications.198603/ https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/roki-filters.191224/...

Catastrophic engine failure - share your stories

Never blew an engine but blew a turbo with only 20k on it in my Forester XT. Factory turbo was replaced under warranty at around 60k miles due to oil getting past the seals. I started pushing my intervals with the new turbo, despite Subaru of America cutting back on the original 7,500 mile OCI...

It's actually Toyo Roki. But I have been using the blue OEM filters in several Subaru's for around 300,000 miles and have never had an issue. Have even run whatever cheap filter came with an oil change bundle and have never had an issue.

I stand corrected. I looked up the part number and also saw the link that @schwinney posted. I presume it’s a Toyo Roki since it’s made in Japan and is black.

    No. Only from the factory.

In the older EJ25x engines, not in the FA20/24 DIT engines. The original post is about the FA24 Direct Injection Turbo. RT6 5W-30MV is probably fine and there is a good uoa on it in from a Forester 2.0DIT in the uoa forum. You think? :ROFLMAO:

I presume so. But the email reply they sent to someone that posted on another forum wasn't specific. That was in 2018 after the 2.0DIT had been out for about 4 years. They continue to recommend X-Clean on their built 2.0 engines and X-Cess only for the non-DI 2.5T found in the STI.

I would advise not using M1 0W-40 in this engine. ESP yes, but not a high SAPS oil like the regular M1 0W-40. One of the top Subaru engine builders in the country found issues in the 2.0DIT running Motul X-cess. I would think that this 2.4DIT wouldn't be much different.

Wow, lucky son! My daughter got a used 1999 2.5RS with 105k miles on it when she left NJ to go to school in RI. Put another 60k on it before selling it and getting a 2015 Legacy Ltd (her "adult car"). I wish they would've put that transmission in the Outback XT. Just a guess, but @edyvw could...

Don't worry. The recommendations in the manual, which actually do allow a higher viscosity, were not written directly by the engineers anyway. ;)

Surprisingly for me, that’s also what I’m doing in my FA24DIT. I’m big on running an an oil with an HTHS of 3.5 or higher in EJ turbo’s, but I’m sticking with 0W-20 in my FA24 for now. This engine is more robust than the EJ and the FA20. The engine has been out for a few years now and I know...

I would not use a high SAPS oil in a Subaru DIT.

    Mobil1 european 0w-40 vs PP euro-l 5w-30 for WRX

I have read where FA20DIT owners have ran the regular M1 0W-40 without issues. OTOH, IAG Performance started noticing issues with deposits early on in WRX’s running Motul X-cess and now spec Motul X-clean at the 3k oil change on a built engine...

Maybe Pennzoil Ultra Platinum burning off more than most other brands via getting into the combustion cylinder is a good sign

Not entirely true. Low NOACK had no bearing on consumption in my Forester XT. Even running Red Line made no difference.

    2017 Subaru 2.5L Interval Question

6k. The last time I ignored SoA's recommended OCI and relied on good uoa's and the advice of others to determine my interval, I had turbo failure.
