    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Sorry, using VII and bases interchangeably. Either way, I think the notion of a 0w oil being inappropriate for hot climates is misguided. Which one is better in the real world depends on data we generally don't have access to (though a teardown like Arizona Bill posted is definitely more...

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

He questioned whether that was the conclusion. 0w oils have their use even in hot climates. The nicer base oils used in those tend to shear less, which is a desirable quality in a high performance tuned motor. The difference in going from a 0w40 to a 5w40 is usually 0.1-0.2 HTHS. BUT, if that...

Where is this max HTHS defined?

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Unless you're comparing something to something fairly exotic... yes, a 5w40 is going to have a higher HTHS than a 0w30. There are certainly other advantages to stucking to 504 oils, but broadly speaking, I'd agree, 502 5w40 oils are better. Just not for your warranty.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Doing a youtube collab is a bit different than them phoning up a tribologist whenever they do an oil change. I think "works very closely" is probably an enormous stretch.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

I've talked to guys in shops like that who say things like "Mobil got rid of zinc entirely" and "Just run VR1 or Redline, only way to keep your bearings alive these days." $20 says whoever said to switch to Motul could not explain what HTHS is.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Yeah, most/all of the MQB groups are ran by for-profit vendors. Had to go watch the video to see what the head looked like. Lost a needle bearing and the cam looked pretty worn. I agree, either was using shoddy oil previously or not changing it often enough. Dumb to blame 0w40.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

The suggestions I have about the people who are running that site would get me kicked off this one. They've done their work in terms of capturing an information space, unfortunately they're the type of people who don't absorb information, they just repeat things.

ESP 0W30 vs. ESP 5W30 Pricing

0w30 looks like the buy. Cheaper, too much phosphorous for API SP, some ester. 5w30 could be mystery tech or just $7 extra for nothing.

Fuel injectors replacement BMW M5 V10

Direct injectors are a wear item. Sensitive tolerances and also way more exposure to heat than port injectors. Rebuilds just clean them and replace the seals, the internals aren't serviceable. Last set I had rebuilt had one injector off by 9% from the rest, had to buy a whole new set to make...

    10w30 VR1 vs 5w40 Euro (M156 V8)

What @edyvw said, but keep in mind there are two Castrol 0w30 options: 0w30 A3/B4 (the one he mentioned, more PAO, too much ZDDP for an API SP xW30 so has API SL). Locally I can only find the 0w30 LL, which is MB229.51 and lower SAPS. I use the 5w30 A3/B4 in the winter since it's easy to find...

    10w30 VR1 vs 5w40 Euro (M156 V8)

1100 is typical for some of the common Euro xW40s. I've always had to try various euro oils til I found the one that a particular engine liked. I maintain a friend's A4 that burns anything besides M1 0w40. My previous EA888 really liked Castrol. Without teardowns though it's hard to say which...

    10w30 VR1 vs 5w40 Euro (M156 V8)

The spec requires 3.5cP. AFAIK that's about the point where additional HTHS is more for overhead for shear/dilution than protection itself. In general a 5w40 will have a slightly higher HTHS than a 0w40 from the same brand with similar approvals but as mentioned already, the better base oils in...

    Mobil 1 ESP 0w20 vs liqui moly toptec6200 0w20 vw508/509

There is a relief spring in the pump that regulates pressure via a hydraulic control system. Been this way since the first gen EA888, though it's been revised a couple times in the Gen3. There are a couple aftermarket oil pumps which just swap out the sprocket for one with less teeth (to spin...

    Mobil 1 ESP 0w20 vs liqui moly toptec6200 0w20 vw508/509

They changed to 508, a 0w20 oil because emissions standards became stricter. Engines which are specced for the thinner oil have a different oil pump to compensate for that. This should probably be a sticky at this point, it gets asked so many times. From VW/Audi engine docs: Factory bearing...

    Haldex + Redline MT-LV GL4?

Eh, not a fan of vaico stuff. They sell new genuine pumps, I'd just replace the whole thing once a year.

    Haldex + Redline MT-LV GL4?

I got an elring set for $13. 147.480. Someone pointed me to these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324499347914 Probably best just to track down some generic viton o-rings, the bolts themselves don't need to be replaced each time.

    Haldex + Redline MT-LV GL4?

That is a downside but it can be changed more regularly like any contaminated lube. I've always cleaned the filter when servicing it, but this is not the standard dealership procedure. If you remove the pump to do so, you're supposed to replace the o-rings on it, which are $90+ if you pay...

    Haldex + Redline MT-LV GL4?

There is no temperature sensor on MQB haldex units, without knowing what feeds into the model who knows. The official VW motorsports pump replacement interval is replace every 4,000km of racing, but that's for VAQ. It seems more common on cars doing endurance/time attack racing. Which is much...
