Recently my curiosity drove me to explore what BITOGer's were saying about using magnets in engine oil. Below is a summary of the comments that others have made. In most cases I've provided a link to one of the comments which was making a claim, however, somehow I did lose track of some of the...
Around here auto zone and advance don't carry wix. But Oriely does and they are not a private local part house. Also, you can buy a NAPA Gold which is basically the same thing.
According to this post very well: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/posts/1627827/
Seems to rate #2 for filtration in this home study right after Pure 1 and before Wix, K&N, Mobil 1, and Fram. Also rated #1 for flow in this line up.
I decided to look into the hard drive magnet idea suggested here. As promised the magnet was extremely strong. I stuck it on one side near the bottom of an unused filter I have in my stash. With a small screw driver I discovered that it turns the entire filter magnetic, the outside of the can...
Yeah I thought the silicon looked a little high. After only 12,000 miles I've noticed the air filter looks a bit dirty. I'm thinking that maybe with all the farms around this is just an extra dusty climate.
Quaker State Advanced Full Synthetic 5W/30 (Purchased summer 2007) I'm pretty sure it's API SM
but I've already disposed of all the bottles.

Looks sort of like (but not exactly like) some stuff I saw in the bottom of my QS synthetic motor oil bottles recently: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...308#Post1653308
I agree, I just got an analysis back of the QS synthetic 5w-30 which showed excellent wear numbers. Hope to be posting the analysis soon....don't know what group the base oil is, I'd assume it's a 3.
Actually a close friend of mine works in a shop and he recently had a customer bring in a 2007 Dodge Ram with a failed fram filter. Parts of the filter had actually circulated throughout the engine and completely plugged the pickup screen. He noted additional damage that he repaired in the upper...
Well, got the fluid all exchanged, only a tiny bit of ATF left in the bottom of the quart. It might have made the steering a little bit smoother but really didn't seem to make much difference. I assume that's really a good thing though, indicating that the old fluid wasn't too far gone.
It seems to me that at this point the question still needing to be address is whether a group 4 or 5 base stock results in a better oil than a group 3 base stock. Has anyone observed any difference from a UOA?
I changed the oil today in my prizm and when I went to add the new oil (QS ADV synthetic) I noticed a cloudy residue build up along the bottom edge on one side of the bottle. I assumed that this was probably some of the additive and I tried (fairly successfully) to slosh the oil around in the...
Thanks guys! Turkey baster, that's something I hadn't thought of. I have a small suction pump that I've used for removing brake fluid from the reservoir but I'm a little uneasy about using it for anything else (like the power steering) for fear of getting brake fluid mixed into the lubricant.
I'm considering getting a Power Steering Flush for my 01 Prizm. The owners manual never lists it as a necessary maintenance item. However, I've heard my buddy who's a mechanic talking about doing it in his Matrix and the fluid in the reservoir on my Prizm is getting a bit dark. I'm also thinking...
