Mopar +4 vs Castrol +4 vs BG

It's time to change the transmission fluid in the 2006 Grand Caravan. Actually, at 108,000 miles it's a bit overdue. I'm trying to decide which fluid to use in it. Because of local availability I've narrowed it down to Mopar +4, Castrol Transmax +4, and the BG synthetic universal transmission...

Revived an old laptop... what else can I do?

I'm a computer professional and work for a medium business that used to be a small business. In the old days I spent a lot of time trying to revive old computers like that one. My experience has been that there's nothing that will help and old windows computer more than a fresh install. However...

    Oil question

I've gone back and forth between synthetic and conventional in my Prism and Dakota. In fact I've used conventional, synthetic, and blend in the Dakota it at various times. I don't think you'll have any issues with your switch between blend and full synthetic plan and I think you'd be fine to go...

Tranny Fluid, change it or leave it

Yep did the smell test before buying. Looks and smells like ATF +4 in good condition (I think the +4 has a stronger smell than the Dextron that I'm more familiar with). Seems like the general consensus here is to change it; I'll probably do that. I found a pretty good deal on Amazon for the...

    Leaking Tranny Pan

Well I ended up just picking up the pan on ebay and got it installed. It took almost 7 1/2 quarts to fill it up. The transmission must have drained almost dry while it was sitting there. I think I feel a lot better about it with doing it right and just replacing the damaged pan.

Tranny Fluid, change it or leave it

Recently bought a 2006 Grand Caravan. It's at 108,000 miles. Usually when I buy a used vehicle I take the approach that most car owners never do any maintenance beyond oil changes so just change, flush, etc anything that might have needed it before/at the current mileage. However, in this case...

    Leaking Tranny Pan

It's pretty small. If I wipe all the fluid away there's a moment before it starts oozzing out again. I guess it must be a pin hole. But the whole right front corner is cover in JB weld, almost from top to bottom so I don't know if there's more damage under that.

    Leaking Tranny Pan

Well junkyard was actually my first thought. I should have mentioned that in the original post. I've checked the national online search and only one junk yard came up and they wanted $75 for the pan. Unfortunately, our local junk yard is pretty pathetic. I might run over there Monday and see if...

    Leaking Tranny Pan

My 97 Dakota has been sitting in front of the house for a couple weeks because of a problem with the steering knuckle. While it was sitting there it started bleeding transmission fluid all over the driveway. In less than a week it's leaked down to the point where the fluid doesn't even show on...

Acceptable tire psi loss per month?

I would say that what I've observed is about 1 to 3 psi per month being normal in my vehicles. There's definitely something wrong with psi loss your seeing on the the rear tires. One common source of a very slow leak like that in my experience is the valve stems. Interestingly a guy once told me...

    Tires for 2006 Grand Caravan

I just bought a 2006 Grand Caravan SXT. I was able to talk the seller down quite a bit because it needed new tires. Now it's time to buy tires. Originally, at the top of my consideration list were the Continental ProContact ECO plus and the Kumho Solus KR21. They are both available at a pretty...

2006 Grand Caravan, What coolant to use for flush

Yeah I put a socket on the block drain plug, wouldn't budge so I decided it wasn't worth to risk. Just ran distilled through it twice and called it good.

    Dipstick Dilema

I took the dipstick and tube that I had back to the dealership and he checked the VIN. It didn't really tell him which dipstick was the right one but he said this vehicle was a very early build for the 2006 model year. He exchanged the tube and dipstick I had for the 2005 dipstick. I tried it...

    Dipstick Dilema

I recently bought a 2006 Grand Caravan with the 3.8 V6. When I was looking it over I pulled out the dipstick and it appeared to be way overfull. The then owner explained that the dealership had broken the original dipstick and replaced it with one from a 2005. He showed me where they had etched...

    oil recomendations for 2006 Caravan

Well it seems like the general consensus here is that there's no need to limit the OCI to 3,000. I'm thinking I might shoot for the 4,500 mark with conventional.
