GM expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology

It would appear you got in under the original "Net Metering" scheme where the utility pays you the same for a kWh your PV system puts on the grid as a kWh you take off the grid. This is why your electric utility is going bankrupt. They get nothing for providing you a marketplace for your excess...

GM expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology

Depending on the manufacturer of the battery module and battery module BCM, the module has the ability to isolate bad cells within. A Tesla Model S with (7100) 18650 cells doesn't stop at the side of the road if one cell goes bad. Isn't just a matter of voltage between cells. Voltage is just...

GM expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology

Your imagination is working too hard. Each battery module has it's own BCM.

GM expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology

You do not understand battery modules. Each is a standalone battery with attached BCM. Modern EV "batteries" are arrays of linked BCMs. Each BCM dynamically balances itself in the array.

GM expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology

That is like asking for tires to be rebuildable. Or for motor oil to last forever after being run through a special filter. At some point a part simply has to be replaced with new. That refurbishing the old costs too much.

Fuel additives for ethanol flex fuel

Marine and aviation got exemptions to the ethanol mandate specifically due to the moisture issue. With pure gasoline one can drain water off the bottom without any stupid additives. This is SOP for small aircraft during preflight.

Fuel additives for ethanol flex fuel

No additive is going to "get rid of water" in an ethanol-laced gasoline. At best the additive increases the quantity of water held in solution where you don't see it. It still gets carried through the engine.

    Rant: EV Tires

There is a slight bit of truth to this urban legend. The NHW20 Prius of 2004-2009 wore 186/65-15 in a heavier 88 service category than the usual 86 for this size of tire. My 2009 ML320 was about 5000 pounds and wore 255/50-19. My 2023 Model Y LR weighs about 4400 pounds and wears 255/45-19. So...

Why doesn't Mobil have a 5w-40 that meets Ford spec?

Best I can tell Ford's WSS specs have the viscosity baked in. So unless you know of a Ford with 5W-40 requirement there will not be a WSS spec.

Restaurant "Price and participation may vary"

Some Subways tripled prices, others not. A 12" tuna is "only" $8.69 or so at most around here. A friend stopped at a Subway in Elizabethtown KY near a Tesla Supercharger where $14 was the average for a 12". I guess it is fair if that is what their market will bear.

    VIRGIN K&N HP-1002 CUT OPEN

Yes, if tracks have banned the nut then they don't have record of failures on the track. They never did have on-track failures, all were street "puddle under the bike in the garage after an oil change." And ancient history.

    VIRGIN K&N HP-1002 CUT OPEN

Do you realize K&N's nut failures occurred 10 years ago? Just how long has it been since anyone has seen a failure of an oil filter with welded sheet metal nut? 2-strokes drip spooge from the exhaust pipe, let's ban them from the track too!

    VIRGIN K&N HP-1002 CUT OPEN

The point is whoever makes oil filters for K&N is making them for another brand. The sad thing is originally HiFlo Filtro made a quality filter with the nut, then made the filter as OEM for K&N, then K&N went to China. Due to K&N's negligence HiFlo's filters with nut got banned too. I won't...

Restaurant "Price and participation may vary"

Subway does that a lot. One restaurant 1/2 mile away might while another will not. Thankfully they have this rolled up in their app now. Same for McDonalds.

    VIRGIN K&N HP-1002 CUT OPEN

Because K&N moved manufacturing to China where someone "optimized" the design creating many failures. Rather than research the batch and OEM (the manufacturer who made the filter for K&N or whoever) tracks simply ban all with the spot welded sheet metal "nut".

Why do some cars just "eat" tires?

All Formula-1 teams must use the same spec tires. Not all Formula-1 teams get the same traction and tire life. There is a lot of magic in the suspension, geometry, and frame flex.

    Oil filter bypass questions

Yes, cold oil. The bypass valve is necessary to prevent the filter media from collapsing. Not everyone knows the oil flows in from the outside and out the center.
