End of life experience during my Dad's passing

I’m a Christian. Even though there’s differences within Christian beliefs regarding the ins and outs about life after death, your wife’s dream may have been a message from God (my belief) that everything is ok with your dad. No more pain. Just happiness. My Dad passed in 1996. My mom in 1970. I...

    Mercruiser 4.3l oil

No. However if someone (me) thinks what the oil is originally blended for, then perhaps an oil blended for it’s specific application may cause someone (me) to think Quicksilver certainly has taken into account the rpm range of marine engines. My Yamaha outboard has an operating range of 5,500 to...

What's the worst you've hurt yourself working on cars?

Pressed fit. Early in the release of these front wheel drive cars, Chevrolet hadn’t sent any of the Kentmore special tools yet. Using a chisel to knock them out. The race shattered. Maybe exploded wasn’t a good word to use…

    Mercruiser 4.3l oil

Not that anyone but me considers this…HD 15w40 is designed for diesel engines and farm equipment that operate below 3k RPM. A boat motor operates much higher. Why not use oil that is designed with anti foaming agents? The Quicksilver recommendation is perfect.

What's the worst you've hurt yourself working on cars?

When the first front wheel drive Citations were released in 1979 they were absolutely junk. A dozen service bulletins issued before they hit the showroom. Had a manual transaxle that wouldn’t stay in high gear. This car didn’t have 25 miles on it. I was removing the bearing races from the...

    Oldest tool you regularly use?

Craftsman wrenches (were my Dad’s) from the 50s. Most all my tools were purchased from late 1976 thru 1982. The years I was on the shop floor. Promoted to shop manager in 1982. Hated by everyone ever since.

Was Your Dad or Granddad a Believer in Non-Detergent Motor Oil?

My dad was born in 1931 and worked his entire career (after the Navy) for Phillips Petroleum Company (Phillips 66). He used non detergent in lawn equipment and Trop Artic 10w40 in his cars and truck. He also ran high octane Phillips 66 “Flight Fuel” in everything. His fuel was free for many...

    Drum brake question

Cheap brake shoes will cause the locking up. Oil or brake fluid soaked shoes cause it as well.

Will Apple air tag stop misuse of cars in for service?

Read the fine print of what you sign when leaving your car for service. You are agreeing to the tech driving your car.

Wife's assessment when the Wife dies before the Husband

With all due respect… your wife left out that most men who lose their wife remarry quickly. That I suppose gives them a “second chance” so to speak.

    Parenting concerns

The way my dad dealt with me when I picked at my younger brother is he would do to me whatever I did to my little brother. He would say “the size differences are the same”. Kind of put the fear in me plus realized that bullying isn’t right. This is totally up to you to resolve dad. You can’t let...

    Mavis tries to strike again

Had a state inspection performed at a Firestone store on my then 12 month old GMC Sierra. Tech manually left the headlights on for at least 30 minutes while he played “pocket pool” and chewing the fat with his buddies. Service writer came over and said “your battery failed the load test so...

    Manufacturing during WW2

So much innovation born from the threat of our (and most of the world’s) freedom. Seeing the photos of all of the men and women working in factories building the equipment necessary confirms my opinion that this truly was the greatest generation. Not to mention all of the soldiers that fought...
