I tend to agree with you. It's more accurate to say that there is (or should be) no user-pay component than to say that something is (or should be) free. Free university, as is often touted here, would literally mean someone would have to donate the land, buildings, and other infrastructure...

I drove a friend's '67 Fury I with the 225 Slant Six. It was surprisingly peppy.
