What Standby Generator are you buying for your house?

I'm not familiar with that Champion generator but most of the ones I've seen are very cheap and sold by Big Box stores. They break easy and usually aren't worth the cost of repair (parts cost more than the generator or are not available, etc). I classify a standby generator as a critical part...

2017 c220d ... Thicker transmission fluid to help with gearbox issue?

There is some discussion of this fluid here: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/who-currently-makes-the-oem-mercedes-transmission-fluids.349711/ Looks like MB 236.17 is an ULV (ultra low viscosity) ATF and there's mention of Nissan using the same Jatco 9-speed transmission. There is a...

2017 c220d ... Thicker transmission fluid to help with gearbox issue?

The link provided by Astro14 (thanks Astro!) lists several compatible fluids from many MFGs. Which of these are available to you? Also, I'm not sure where you are (UK?) but I'm most familiar with products from NA / Canada. You also mentioned a Mercedes specialist and a software update. Can you...

Double True for any hydraulic, transmission or gearbox. Get those wear metals out and clean the magnets!

Another 5000 mile Frantz filter change

Wow that's some "special" TP there! A luxury I apparently can't afford. ;D

    Differential Oil Selection Confusion

A recent trend in automotive design is low viscosity fluids and long change intervals, largely for the purpose of efficiency and marketing. This is great unless you want to keep your car or are concerned about premature failure. We can now also make things more efficiently so that they don't...

What Standby Generator are you buying for your house?

I would strongly advise you get a parts list for this unit and price out replacement circuit boards & modules before purchasing. I would also advise that if your going to rely on something "cheap", for a potentially critical resource, that you buy two of them.

5w30 - SuperTech HM FS $29 or Pennzoil HM $30? (CDN)

I was shopping on Walmart.ca and yes they do. It's an extra $10. ... sorry, correction, that's for the Platinum. Could not see any "synthetic" HM.

5w30 - SuperTech HM FS $29 or Pennzoil HM $30? (CDN)

You think the Pennzoil HM, non-synth, non-dexos is worth paying for?... and I do agree it wouldn't hurt. ;)

    Differential Oil Selection Confusion

Correct but they won't filter metal as well as the magnets in the pan do. You have to clean those manually for them to keep working, keeping the fluid clean (of metal) and wear down.

5w30 - SuperTech HM FS $29 or Pennzoil HM $30? (CDN)

Typically around 5-6k but I've been thinking of tuning that up if I can get VRP at a decent price sometime. Usually I change twice a year (spring / fall). Currently thinking of ST FS 5w40 (0w40 or HM not available in CAN) for summer and ST HM FS 5w30 for winter.

5w30 - SuperTech HM FS $29 or Pennzoil HM $30? (CDN)

5w30 - SuperTech HM FS $29 or Pennzoil HM $30 (CDN) SuperTech engine oil seems to rarely go on sale so I usually get Kirkland for $20/5 quart but I'm thinking of switching to a High Milage oil. I think this is an easy decision but what do you think? SuperTech HM FS 5w30 $29 API SP ILSAC GF-6A...

Front brakes on a 2003 Passat W8....high strangeness!

Strange!?! Have you seen the Audi V8 front brake system?? https://www.spannerhead.com/2011/10/21/technical-curiosities-audis-ufo-brakes/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/audis-ufo-brake-system/268982/page1/

What Standby Generator are you buying for your house?

Short answer is Briggs & Stratton. Longer answer is, with that kind of money I would have two or three, non-grid power options along with a sizable supply of battery power. So, depending on the property & location I would have solar, wind, hydro along with my own gas well and 2 or 3 NG...

    Differential Oil Selection Confusion

Further thoughts on this, this is similar to an engine that specs a 0w20 GF-6a engine oil which can also be run on 0w/5w/10w/15w - 20/30/40/50 GF-6a engine oils. The viscosity difference is not going to damage / destroy the engine if the ambient / operating conditions are taken into account...

Motorcycle frame do it all grease

... also, in my experience, anti-seize compounds are usually petroleum based and this carrier does not last for corrosion protection. The carrier will drain or wash-out leaving the solids behind (ceramics, soft metals) but that is not going to protect against corrosion. You might want to look...

    Differential Oil Selection Confusion

You're getting the discussion and channels confused. CarCareNut is a different, terrible, YouTube channel that promoted contaminated (dirty) automatic transmission fluid as required for proper transmission operation and long life. I can not tolerate that level of ignorance from someone who...

Motorcycle frame do it all grease

I haven't used it in this specific application but I would try a professional grade silicone grease like Dow Corning 111. It's what I've had the most experience with, used to be able to get it for a good price. Waterproof and lasts forever. Really.

Differential fluid recommendation for Toyota and Nissan

Good job and make sure they are dropping the pan to inspect and clean the magnets. I believe the Rogue was updated to three magnets from two in the previous design, similar to what Ford did with the 6R80. (not a CVT but it has had critical failures due to metal buildup in the fluid)

    Differential Oil Selection Confusion

The gearbox/diff was not damaged by using a Valvoline product and it was not damaged by using 75w90 GL5. There is a material, design or assembly issue with these diffs which is discussed in the comments and other videos & threads. I think your diff is also used in the Toyota Supra? I'm sure...
