    New '09 Legacy 2.5i SE - I'm thinking 5w-40...

I'm currently trying GC in my '05 Pathfinder. I'm concerned about GC though as I notice a trend of high values for lead in many of the analyses for it. The pathfinder runs silky smooth with it.

Where are you finding the PP 5w-40? I've never seen that on the shelf anywhere. I did see PP 5W-50 on the shelf today at AutoZone.

    New '09 Legacy 2.5i SE - I'm thinking 5w-40...

This car will be driven 90% on the highway. 100 miles per day commute. 7500 miles should be fine with the right oil.

    New '09 Legacy 2.5i SE - I'm thinking 5w-40...

Thanks. I appreciate your well-thought out and thoughtful response. Useful info based on experience...as opposed to trying to give me a geography lesson. She's only got 250 miles on her, so I've got some time to think it over. I'm still leaning towards the 5w-40 though.

    New '09 Legacy 2.5i SE - I'm thinking 5w-40...

7500 mile oil changes are spec'd for non-turbo Subarus. SM oil is required. 5w-40 SM rated oil will not void the warranty. Also, 5w-40 seems to be what Subaru specs for this engine in Europe.

    New '09 Legacy 2.5i SE - I'm thinking 5w-40...

OK, so I bought an '09 Subaru Legacy 2.5i SE with the N/A engine. Owner's manual states 5w-30 preferred, 10w-30, 10w40 should be used for hot climates, towing, etc. I'm thinking a 5w-40 should be perfect for this car. So which one? Valvoline SynPower 5w-40 SM/CF Mobil 1 TDT 5w-40 SM/CJ Rotella...

    PP 5w-30 4057 '05 Nissan Pathfinder VQ40DE

I'll be running the current oil for 4K miles like the PP to do a comparison. Withthe low wear metals and high TBN I am not suspecting a coolant leak.

    PP 5w-30 4057 '05 Nissan Pathfinder VQ40DE

Actually, now that I think about it, there was an oil filter on the vehicle from a Valvoline quick lube joint when I bought it. I'm using NAPA gold filters. If Valvoline dino uses Sodium, that explains it.

    PP 5w-30 4057 '05 Nissan Pathfinder VQ40DE

I purhcased this vehicle used a few months ago. This is the first analysis I have done on it. As Blackstone suggested, the high sodium may be from the previous oil fill. I have no idea what oil was used previously. The wear looks good and the coolant level is stable, so I expect to see lower...

More Fuel for the Ever-Raging 20wt Oil Debate

Wow, I can't believe there is no comment on the above EPA document. Basically, in order to use 5w20 oil in EPA fuel economy tests, manufacturers must: 1. State to consumers that it is the ONLY oil they can use. 2. Force their dealer network to push the use of 5w20. 3. Force quick change shops...

More Fuel for the Ever-Raging 20wt Oil Debate

I've been using PP 5w30 with a Motorcraft filter in my '08 Mustang GT. The engine is noticeably smoother and quieter with it, though I took about a .5mpg mileage hit. The car is manual shift, so I figure having an HTHS of 3.0 instead of 2.6 is a plus if I run it hard or accidentally lug it a...

    Mobil 1 Conerns?

I've been using PP 5w30 in my '08 Mustang GT, running 5,000 mile OCIs. I have not had any oil consumption in my last two OCIs.

Ok i go to the u.o.a. and search Slick 50.

I used Slick 50 back in the day. It didn't make the engine run any better or last longer. However when frying eggs on the valve cover they didn't stick.

Okay..I want everyones opinion on oil wt...

I think it also depends on the car/engine and how it is driven. I'm running PP 5w30 in my '08 Mustang GT with manual transmission. Ford specs 5w20 for this application, and I'm sure that most of the time 5w20 is just fine. I'm running 5w30 because it has HT/HS of 3.0 as opposed to 2.65 for the...

    Assume the dipstick is wrong?

With a filter change, the '05-'08 Mustang GT takes about 6.5 quarts to reach the full mark on the dipstick. This is true on mine and it is repeated by many owners on various Mustang forums. You don't want to fill it above the top hole on the dipstick though.

    5w-20 or 5w-30

I just switched from 0w20 Amsoil ASM to PP 5w30 in my '08 Mustang GT 4.6L 3V engine. The engine is noticeably smoother throughout the RPM range on the 5w30. My wife even commented on it and asked what I had done to the car. No noticeable change in performance or mileage. My reason for going to...

Is there a product data sheet for the PP Euro formula. The Pennzoil site doens't seem to have one. I'd like to see the numbers for this oil.
