    low idle after battery change

Success! Throttle body is way on the backside of the 2AZ-FE, so I took off the air filter box, which contains the MAF sensor. Unplugged sensors and then got daughter to keep sufficient rpms to keep car running while I sprayed throttle body cleaner down the intake hose that goes to TB. Then...

Critic, that's my Monday morning battle plan. Thanks all!

Car is not throwing any codes, just low idle.

    low idle after battery change

It's idling at about 500-550 rpm, which makes the 4 cylinder shake. Supposedly, the ETSC-i module does away with the IAC and the butterfly is controlled by the module. My mechanic told me that sometimes they have to hook up a car to the computer and help it relearn the current conditions. I was...

    low idle after battery change

Daughter's 07 Camry with the 2AZ-FE engine has been plagued with low idle since her battery had to changed. I've read on Toyota forums that the ECU resets and default to when the vehicle was new. Some people have found relief by cleaning the throttle body. Others have left the battery unhooked...

    Bye, Bye 530i

Finally found a car for the wife. 2011 528i with 36k, sport package and premium sound and navigation. Wife is a little intimidated by all the bells and whistles.

    Positive results with BG109

Daughter's 07 Camry has the dreaded 2.4L that can start using oil at alarming rates if oil drain holes in pistons get plugged. I noticed increased consumption as she approached 100k miles. I ran a dose of Rislone for a couple of thousand miles but only saw slight decrease in consumption (quart...

Thoughts on buying a car with a rebuilt title?

My response is similar to the end of the Monty Python killer bunny scene. "Run Away, Run Away, Run Away!"

    Bye, Bye 530i

Finally heard back from insurance company. Started out at $5,900 much to my chagrin. I was nice about it and told them there was no way that car was worth that little. Finally settled on $6,600. With the miles it had, it was about what KBB said was value for private party sale. They don't give...

    Bye, Bye 530i

edyvw: That's the way I'm leaning. I know there was an update for the 2011 (F10) model, so should be able to get a better deal on an E60. The wrecked E60 sure was a good car!

    Bye, Bye 530i

Jarlaxle: Body shop tried the conventional headlight trick, but wouldn't mate up. Adaptive headlight controlled through the computer. I have to give them credit, they tried everything to keep car from being totaled but it was not to be. Buying it back was not worth the hassle with a salvage...

    Bye, Bye 530i

Lovely wife tried to load the 2004 530i on a guy's trailer without his knowledge. Thought it would be no problem getting it repaired. Estimate was $4k until the collision center started trying to find headlights. Adaptive headlights were $1,500 each. Insurance company (Safeco) said no way and...

    Please comment on BG EPR

Daughter's 2007 Camry 4-banger, yep the one known for oil consumption, had started using more oil at around the 90K mark, about 1 quart per 1,500 miles, which is not enough for relief from Toyota. The oil drain holes in the piston skirts get plugged and it burns oil. I decided to try the BG EPR...

    Synpower MST 5-40

Didn't realize this was an LL-04 oil when I bought it during the Autozone clearance. I already do short OCIs (6K miles) on my wife's 04 530i with the M54 engine. Do you think there would be any problem using this oil with low TBN (7) for the 6K OCI?

MG "B" Series Engines and Oils

When we had a MGB, it got a constant dose of GTX 20w-50 because oil disappeared fairly rapidly in the B. The rule about MGs is that "if it ain't leaking or burning oil, there ain't no oil in it."

    oil for 1972 Datsun 240z

I ran a beloved '76 Datsun 280z, which had fuel injection instead of the 240's carbs, for 12 years. Castrol GTX 20W-50 for 230K miles.

BMW - Synthetic Vs Dino for short OCI

Wife's 2004 530i with the M54 engine gets any LL-01 oil I find on sale. That has ranged from Motul to Castrol to Mobil 1 to Pennzoil. 6K OCIs.

Using 0W40 Synthetic in B&S Engines?

Been running 5w-40 Mobil 1 TDT is my 26hp B&S on my Scag zero turn for the past 7 years. Change it once a year, and it barely changes color during that run.
