I have an 06 Mustang GT and have run 5W30 here and there, and actually have managed to get better UOA results with the 5W30 than the 5W20 the engine calls for. I have noticed no difference in performance with either oil.

I don't think any different oil brand or grade could have produced significantly lower numbers considering the hard life this car has. We are mostly doing this testing to ensure that the oil can stand up to 5K mile intervals under this harsh service. Evidently it can.

No, not a fleet manager, but I am helping the guy who is in charge of our fleet. He would never go for a 5W30 because Ford recommends 5W20. That is also why we will never go longer than 5K miles because Ford recommends it. Same for tires, brakes, etc. We use OEM replacement parts so in the...

The oil was in service for about 2 months, it was put in the car on 01/22/2009 and changed on 03/30/2009. No idea on hours the engine ran for, just guessing about 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I doubt our fleet manager will go for any synthetics or extended drain intervals. We just now are...

Yes, active duty. It is in service 5 days a week, 24 hours a day. That doesn't mean it runs that whole time, but is in service. I would say it is actually running about 6-8 hours a day, and puts on about 2500 miles per month. Lots of idling.

Standard 4.6L V8 in the CVPI, no modifications. Engine has 35K miles on it at time of sample. Very hard use, many hard WOT runs and included some cool ambient temps as well (20's F). Analysis by OAI. They flagged the TBN as abnormal and recommended the oil be changed because of it if not...

Why the premium? Are you running some mods that support the extra octane? If not, you are wasting your money.

Dont use heavier then rec'd oil in FORD VCT cars

I have a 2006 Mustang GT, and I have run multiple oil analysis on both 5W20 and 5W30 and the 5W30 shows a consistently lower metals content in every category. If the 5W30 was causing the VCT system to wear out prematurely, wouldn't this show up in the oil analysis?

Yeah, that is why I don't think this is a bad report at all...all things considered.

Chevrofreak, you get excellent mileage for a large car. The reason for 9-10 mpg in my case is extensive idling, followed by several full throttle jaunts through town each day. When I say extensive idling, I mean longer than 20-30 minutes at a time. On any given day I would estimate the car idles...

On such a new car that has had Synthetic oil changed regularly, why are you using Auto RX at all? I mean, I doubt you would have any problem with any deposits in this engine without the RX.

You could probably get very similar results from any good synthetic, and probably a lot cheaper than RP. Try looking around the sales/rebates section and see what you can find in your area. Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1, Valvoline Synpower...the list goes on. All much cheaper than RP and would...

Why don't you try posting the analysis so everyone can see. The link you posted requires us to log in, and we don't have a username or password. Like others have said previously in this thread, type the results in, or post an image of the results somewhere so we can see it. Check other analyses...

Lead foot...check!! Not a problem, I think the older 4.6's had lead in the bearings but I'm pretty sure the new 24 valve versions in the mustangs and explorers do not have any lead in the bearings.
