Interesting article.
I am wondering simply, how many miles or a range of mileage on the engine when the chain is stretched out of spec? Is it 20k mi, 50k mi, 100k mi?
I didn't see it listed as an item in the maintenance schedule for the car...….
IMO; new car, warranty could be important.... early change by a trusty dealer service dept (documented) for all of the drivetrain oils is probably good preventative maintenance if you plan to keep the car for a long time.
dealer service dept may say 'don't worry'; but they are only concerned...
it seems strange to me that a 6.2L LT1 would have an oil recommended by the mfgr based on better gas mileage, a low HTHS 5w30. are the owners really buying that engine for gas mileage? I know i did not, it was not a consideration. the .gov requirements have paved this path i guess. and then...
right now, working with 5k mi, 6 month OCI; OLM in the teens.... below 20%. so far 18.2k miles on the car.
Also have an E2 catch can installed that grabs about an ounce every 1k mi.
i noticed upon emptying the 10 qts of oil into the oil pan; the whole garage stinks. seemingly much more so than...

We do have NAPA up here too, I will keep an eye out for when they have sales.
I have also been looking for other...
i think that the funny party is that EU Chevy recommends Dexos 2 and USA Chevy has recommended Dexos 1 (Dexos1 Gen 2).
Is this somehow related to fuel and sulphur content differences between USa and the EU or something else? Why not recommend the same oil spec worldwide?
i guess it depends on total capacity......
10qt capacity here; 1/2 qt to 1 qt low is time to add for me.
if i had 5 qt capacity; then no more than 1/2 qt low would be time to add for me.
FWIW. OLM seems to run out at ~6300mi in the 2016 GDI LT1. Been changing 2 times a year...late spring and late fall. this equates to +-5k miles; OLM under 20%. Oil smells like fuel fumes at the change, stinks up the garage when draining it. actually the smell is similar to the 'blow by' i empty...

Do you think switching from a 0W40 oil to a...
AmsOil ran some tests against other major brand oils in 2013 that has been circulated here in the past. 4 years old, so not very recent; I think this time frame is pre SOUPS GTL. Not sure how unbiased the report is; interesting reading though.....

well IMO, as noted in the previous post it mostly depends on overall size of the sump and the graduation of the mark (or marks) on the dipstick.
For instance my car has a 10qt sump, half way down on the dipstick is less than 1/2 qt, i can wait until the level is at the bottom of the stick and...
Good question...... Just wondering how the different oils compare in this category; another data point to look at.
wondering if most name brands are similar or dissimilar.
Then a good education on what the number value really means would probably be the next question.
for instance, is a .1...
