What are you working on today?

Last Saturday I took off the valve cover on the 2004 2.3L Focus engine as it was getting dirty. Changed the oil while at it. Turns out the two inside fasteners were barely finger tight. In the end not bad for 205,000 miles. Tomorrow a leak in the 2004 LeSabre lower hose connection to the AC...

What's the worst you've hurt yourself working on cars?

That was last week when I thought I had cut off the tip of my third finger on my left hand or crushed it severely. I went to turn the crankshaft in my engine and had my hand on the block as a crank counter weight came by. I was on the ground in an instant, rolling around for minutes on end...

What are you working on today?

Finally got the thrust bearing sanded down to provide me with some movement in the block. Initially had no movement and the crank was locked in. Should be somewhere between 0.006-0.008" now. Range for FE is 0.004-0.010" desired. After that mounted the pistons to the rods.

What are you working on today?

The speedometer has been jumpy in the 626 for quite awhile. However, two days ago it was not only jumpy but howling. Ok, time to bite the bullet and change it out. I've had two in stock for a long time but that new noise if too much. Don't forget the hidden screw holding the dash fascia on...

What are you working on today?

Got the crank into the 410 after checking clearances. Now I await to pick up my rods/pistons after the machinist mounts them. After that primed parts I am having sand blasted every week.

What are you working on today?

Just installed after arriving two days ago. Don't even ask what the two aluminum rings cost. Originals were just plastic with no NOS available and survivors mostly all cracked. The pocket in the back is NOS that I got when I traded a 66 battery support tray which was different from the 65. So I...

Considering a 2000 Ford Focus SE wagon as a beater

Excellent purchase. My 2004 2.3 manual is at 203,000 miles and not one problem ever.

California getting ready to switch over its license plate numbering scheme

I'll have to disagree with this as California is one of the few in that the plate stays with the car. I have bought five classics since 1985 and all kept the same plate when first registered in California. Three, a 68 (1 owner), a 72 ( 1 owner), and 73 (two owners) were recently changed to...
