I live in Philly and the summers can be hot. I have a 98 audi a6 2.8 v6 quattro.
What is the thickest oil i can safely run and what is some high quality oil that i can use?
Thanks guys.
Bringing my baby back out. Its been a few years. She has 150k on her and running stron.g What oil would you guru's suggest. i dont mind short intervals.. usually change ever 2.5k-5k depending on which car im dealing with(some even shorter than that).
For max reliabilty and longevity, keep in...
fuel effects knock not compression. i had bad fuel. but i did hear that too thin of oil can cause or aid to knock and make it more apparent. i have an EXTREMELY sensative knock sensor, way more sensative than my ecu, so when it thinks it will knock i let off.
I believe there is no mechanical issue. I put new gas in lastnight and it fixed almost everything. i had a 1/4 tank left of the old stuff so that is what i think is the reason. just wanted to see if the oil had anything to do with it.
Since i put 0-30 GC in my car i have had some knock and my compression was slightly lower. Can oil effect compression or knocking? Anyone have experience. This is on a 4 cyl with a turbo. Thanks.
Well i broke the turbo in with some fresh royal purple 5w-30. Put 30 miles on it and did a full oil and oil filter change like proper precedure with a new turbo. I put in 4.75 qts of 0-30 GC green. Certainly seems thicker than m1 no question about that. engine seemed slightly quieter nothing too...
yesyes i understand that quote. i called FP.. it would cause WAY more damange doing a vert to dino oil from synthetic to my engine... He primped the turbo with dino oil for 15 miles on their machine.. not on a car... he said it will be totally fine so long as it is THICK 30 weight.. hence why i...
This is not a dry center turbo. It is WATER AND OIL COOLED. You can turn the car off and it will FULLY cool and circulate water through until it is cool.. hence the beauty of oil and water cooled turbos. If it were just oil then yes a TT would be needed.
In my 05 sti i changed to M1 5w-30 at 3000 miles. I burned some m1, but i did not burn a drop of royal purple. I will be switching to GC tonight and will report back.
Everyones theory of engine break in is different, along with when to switch to synthetic oil.
anyone suggest other oils to run after the turbo is fully broken in? anyone have experience with a dare i say "perfect" summer oil? I live in PA.. so we can hit 100 sometimes and 110 on the race track. thanks.
