Yeah, I am following these prices on import brakes and it is going crazy. I paid ATE rotors for Atlas $88 a piece, now it is $162. -

For euro stuff I usually use OE or Zimmerman coated and ATE pads, some of the OE prices are getting crazy now though.

I agree for the base Jetta/Golf, but on the GLI/GTI/R I'm surprised it's such a long throw from the factory.

You are on the right track. Forget grade and look for HTHS >3.5. Your 15w-40 probably covers that.
