Entertaining oil commentary and recommendations from social media

Is it though? Well it HAS evolved from strictly forum format over the years to more social media-like, BUT, it had not devolved into the mindless time-suck that will be the death of humanity like FaceBook, Instagram, X, and all the other drivel out there that fosters insanity. Oh, forgot to add...

Direct Injection, Oil, and trip distance

So, let me get this straight. You're asking about oil changes for a company car? Do you get reimbursed for doing them yourself?

Direct Injection, Oil, and trip distance

10-4 for change schedule. Thats Oct. and April 😁. SC's recommendation for for fuel is good idea as well. I like Ethanol Shield for stuff that sits using anything containing ethanol.

And folks wonder why I don't have anything to do with social media .

2019 MB GLK 400 rear brakes. Pad and rotor sugggestions.

Yep, all this. Have done a few brake jobs for folks who insisted on using the Akebono Euros on their VW, BMW, Audis because they wanted "less dust" and still have the Euro feel to the brakes. Each time I say ok, but you DO get less. Less dust, bite, stopping power, feel, modulation etc. After a...

    Short Shifter Install

Why? Because most folks that would drive a manual Jetta vs. a more performance oriented S3 would complain that the shift throws are too short/tight, can't tell what gear their in, or money shift the trans and wonder why they cant get it fixed under warranty 😁.

    Ford police vehicles

Ford has been in the police/LE vehicle business for many years and has used most of their 4 door fleet, sedan, SUV, or pick-up, in some form or another to supply departments. I've driven all of the ones that they did from the battle tank Crown Vics all the way to my most recent whip, the...

What do you folks use for rear brake calipers?

A lot of Euro stuff I do requires that the caliper piston be rotated while compressing it. I use this kit from ECS Tuning: More recent cars with electronic e-brakes, I have to use a diagnostic tool such as Ross-Tech or OBD11 to retract the pistons. Otherwise I use a racheting spreader tool from...

    Deck stained after rain

Yep. Warmer weather in summer brings the tannins closer to the surface. Eventually, they will fade away if your deck is stained/sealed well. Either clean each time or just let nature do it's thing. That, or cut down the source 😁.

A couple of nice touches on my new car

Dynamic center caps are pretty cool. Probably dealer installed along with valve stem caps. Hope they didn't charge too much for those "nice touches" 😁. Aside; it looks like the wheels have conventional TPMS sensors installed. Thats odd for modern VWs as the ABS sensor doubles as a low tire...

Is Mobil 1 0w-40 too thin?

Are you using a true E85 tune or more of a mix like E30? And do you have an ethanol gauge on the fuel like Fuel-It? When I had my GTI with a custom E30 EQT tune on a stock IS20, but Autotech HPFP, I had to be very cautious that I had an exact percentage, otherwise my fuel headroom would take a...

    Post your latest oil change

4th (and hopefully final) VW for the month. 2021 Tiguan, 2.0 Budack, 69K. He doesn't remember last OC, and I didn't do it. He had a reputable local shop do it. Oil looked ok and didn't smell like anything strange, so probably 10K or less. Did convince him we need to do tranny service next OCI...

    Reliable water pump brands?

How far did the original get you? Amortize the price difference of the OE (AC Delco?) over those miles and compare it to the frustration cost of having to replace some cheap W/P because it was, well, cheaper.

    Mahle LX1607/1, 8 Years, 28.5k mi

Sure ya can. I bought a sheet of Uni filter foam (green) to make replacement filters on an old Shindiawa trimmer. Reckon you could cut to size and hot glue it in a couple places and accomplish the same thing. I know lots of Euro air filters have the option of a foam or mesh type material...

    Best penetrating lubricant

What about traditional white lithium grease? I have CRC brand and it seems to migrate pretty well. Lubricates for a long time and stays put. Another idea is to use a motorcycle chain wax. Starts very fluid and then penetrant flashes off and leaves a waxy lubricant behind. I use it on wheel...

Actually doesn't look all that hateful. The foam is a "snow filter" or prefilter to keep water off of the paper element and getting soaked.

    Adventures to the Gulf Coast

Yes. They are the last couple that secured housing on base (Kessler AFB) as part of a retired military program they offered. I want to say their rent is very low, like under a grand. I can get more details and PM you. Not doing waterfront, or even real near the beach for same reason. All the...

    Post your latest oil change

Must be my month for VW oil changes. Did wife's Tiguan and a coworker of her's Tig, Just finished a former coworker of mine's Passat before my trip and will do another Tiguan that belongs to a guy I used to work with on shift at the department on Wednesday. At least they all use the same oil and...
