My dad bought a 1967 Mustang 289 in 1970 w/only 9k miles on it.
He loved it, and drove it hard every day until 1978, when it basically fell apart from rust. He did not baby it - it saw daily driver duty, long trips, 100-mph highway runs, burnouts, and the odd street skirmish.
He put about 150k miles on it; and as far as I know, it never had any mechanical problems. It rusted out, but the engine ran fine until the end.
Don't know what it saw for maintenance, but I assume he took it to CT once every couple of months for an oil change with whatever 'house brand' oil they used, in 10W-30 most likely.
The 305-powered Malibu that followed it was a different story, though.
