No words needed. Brittle media, Hard ADBV. Might have came from a diesel based on oil color, not sure. Looks like the pleating machine was too sharp

Without knowing the OCI, as it may have been extended beyond the filters capabilities, it is hard to determine which is to blame... build quality or usage abuse.

This is a pretty massive failure. The filter media could possibly have passed through the holes and gotten into the engine internals.
At least that is one good thing about louvers.

While this is true, we see too many Puro made filters with failures within recommended intervals to say it is just a fluke.

How many other brands do we see that have gone beyond their recommended interval still intact, as well as intact for normal intervals?
Aside from a few manufacture defects (the Fram missing 1/3 of the media and the Wix with pleats not glued), failures like this are not common, except on Puro filters (and the one Champ made that THafeez posted today with unknown details).

Manufactured on May 27, 2015.

Not much else to say. Aside from the tear in the usual spot, the brittle media is hard to explain for a filter that's only two years old.
