Left foot operated pedal for windshield washer

My '72 Mercury (Ford) Capri V6 had the rubber bulb on the floor with a metal ring around it connected to a switch to run the wipers. Best part was you could push extra hard and spray cars or people behind you.

Loved that car, drove it until it rusted to pieces.

Cars are heaps better from an ergonomical viewpoint. Floor dipping switches are not so bad, particularly with automatic transmissions, floor operated washers not a great idea but probably an improvement on the hand operated manual pumps. But some European cars were terrible, Mini's light and wiper switches out of reach for anyone wearing a seat belt, heater controls easiest to work with the drivers foot, not forgetting wipers that left massive blind spots or power steering that felt like driving on ice. Ford were the first to use floor mounted washers in the UK around 1970 if memory serves.

Claud.
