It looks like a Purolator. Did the center tube have the slots, or round holes? What did you replace it with?

Replaced it wih a wix xp, the holes were round

There were a few little flecks that looked like aluminum. To be expected on any new engine I'd think.

Yes, that looks like a Purolator. The Purolator part number is L12222
Did the slotted holes in the baseplate have burs that cut into the adbv rubber?
Wally World sells the Mopar filters for around $6.99, I believe. For another $2, you can get the Fram Ultra filter.

I believe the 2013+ 5.7L Ram calls for the Mopar MO-339, due to changes in the power steering.

My 2012 which was the last model year with a belt driven power steering pump uses the Mopar MO-899 which I understand can be used on the 2013+ models as an oversize filter option but not mfr. spec'd. for those model years.
