This Fram Ultra XG10575 came off my 2014 GMC Sierra 5.3 V8. It was in use from July to this weekend when I changed the oil. 7,354 miles with Mobil 1 0W-20 AFE. I used tin snips and a lot of elbow grease to get this thing apart. ADV was very pliable and nothing appeared out of the ordinary with the construction. With the media unwrapped and spread out I measure about 38.5". I probably could have got another inch or so out of it if I would have flattened it out more. The wire mesh backing keeps it in the accordion shape.

Interesting ... the bypass valve in your XG is black, and the XG7317 I just cut open is light tan colored. Good photos.

Then you probably have old stock. All of the XG7317's I have cut open, and all XG (Ultras) in general have had black bypass valves.

Probably so, the XG I posted up was bought Feb 2013 and installed on 5/3/13.

Hey that was on my birthday. How thoughtful of you.

Going by your mileage, you went by the OLM, right?

You probably could have gone longer with Mobil 1 and the Ultra filter. According to the filter, you could have gone double the miles.

The filter looks really good and from what I can tell the oil looks pretty clean too after that many miles.

Looks like it did a GOOD JOB.... Its dirty... so that means it in fact trapped sludge and dirt. I see many Filters that are cut open and they have 7000 miles on them and they are relativly clean. Now Im not sure if the filter is not filtering all the dirt and sludge out or perhaps the Engine in the car is very clean.

However even FRAM Extra Gaurds when you see one of them cut open they will always be DIRTY.
So to me... that would make me think it did its job... Think about it.

So I like the fact that your Fram Ultra is DIRTY..... shows it did its job.

Im starting to think that not all filter media is the same... Perhaps some filter media is high quality and others may be less quality.

I mean its possible.

Thanks for the C&P! Strangely enough, this appears to be the filter that fits my 2014 Ford Explorer (OEM is FL-500s) as well. I had been wondering what how it was constructed on the inside and now I do not have to cut when open to find out. The filter looks good and I have no doubts it could have made it up to and past its advertised 15K limit. I like how the wire backing keeps those pleats are nice and straight.

How are your forearms?

I actually had a couple blisters on my hand from gripping the pliers so hard while trying to rip the end caps off! The glue that holds them on is pretty strong!

Since the Fram Ultra uses media designed for depth loading (where particulate is captured within the media, not just blocked at the media surface), and uses 2 ply (which are probably two different micron ratings - coarser on the outer layer & finer on the inner layer), it appears to be a density gradient depth loading media.

One other note I can think of - since depth loading style media is designed to trap the particulate within the media, concerns about particulate sloughing off the element surface during a bypass event should be considerably less. It certainly is for me.

It makes sense that the change from Xtended Guard with a conventional outer media and inner synthetic media to 2 layers of synthetic media in the Ultra - there wasn't really a great benefit by adding the layer of synthetic depth loading media under a layer of surface loading design media.
