Note that the highest API (diesel) rating is CF, and sticking to ACEA specs, for the majority of diesel vehicles that have DPFs, and the japanese penchant for staying away from CI, CJ etc.

So these oils are intended for light or medium duty diesels ?

The typical Oz diesel, passenger cars, SUVs (Navara, Amarok, Great Wall, Patrol, Pajero)...that sort of thing.

I am surprised that someone would make a light duty diesel 5w40, and not be VW approved.

They make a particular "edge" product that meets VW, and I don't know a single VW owner (out of the three that I know) who do their own maintenance.
