How often should you grease the zerks in a vehicle? I have a 1999 Silverado 2WD with some zerks in the front end (6) and some U-joint zerks. Is it based on mileage or time? The truck is not driven hard at all, has approximately 115,000 miles on it. Runs like new, it's very well looked after. While I'm at it, how long can I expect this vehicle (engine and transmission, specifically) to last?

I grease all my zerks every year in spring/fall as a pre winter check up.
when i do a fliter oil change and wipers etc carpet cleaning and so on.

I have had 2 simular vehicles 1994 Silverado 5.7 engine auto trans 4X4 it had 224,000 miles on it when I traded it in for a 1998 Silverado 4x4 5.7 w/ automatic. It had over 200,000 when I traded it in. The 94 had a trans OD failure at 148,000 miles which I was told is typical for the model.
I know many other people that have over 200,000 miles on the original drive train WITH proper care & maint.
If you purchased this vehicle used - get oil samples taken. They speak volumes on the condition of the components drained from.
