The one that I drove was a 5 cyl.

Apparently driving around in the Oz bush is not what they were designed for.

The hub seals failed regularly in 35C plus dusty weather.

I've driven both the 5 cyl and 6 cyl version. The 6 cyl version had head gasket issues in early production...
There was also a gasoline Ford V6 available, but that version isn't used in the Norwegian army.

+35C is about as hot as it ever gets here (every 5th year or so) :) Driving in the snow at -35C didn't reveal any problems...

Alas, I have no picture of my Audi on top of a giant dune. Getting up there was no problem. Getting down, well, let's not go there.

A Tasmanian guy a few years ago modified Holden H series cars into "Overlander" four wheel drives.

Did such a good job that they were sold through Holden Dealers.

Yep, found out yesterday there was a tracked one also.

mori, a guy on another BB (in the U.K.) is after advice on an off road/camper.

His options are limited to (not these particular vehicles), but the models.

Any ideas ?

The unimog looks interesting. At the moment I really love the land rover 101 and the volvo c303 and they're both most affordable to me. There's a big government/military auction local to me at the end of this month, I'll see what they have too.

Driving a Pinzgauer requires that you recalibrate your pucker factor. It can do things you think it can’t. It’s actually pretty scary to lean what it can do. It’s not a good commuter, too noisy and buzzy at highway speeds but off in the dirt it’s hard to defeat. I rode in and drove one for a week in the desert and it was a lot of fun when you were not scaring yourself.

I'm just about to start taking it apart and refitting a new engine and making new bodywork so I'll photo-document everything and do one for the new build
