Hi all,

my first post in this forum. Being reading a bit about oils and discovered this forum. I have a 2011 zx10r kawa, an d Ive been using only motul on it.
During the breakin I used the 5100 10w40, changed to 7100 and for the last two changes I used the 300v.

I live in Portugal and my weather condtions is arround 10º in winter and 30-35º on summer ( sea level )

No complains at motul, but I was wondering if I should use 15w50 in summer besides the 10w40.

whats your thoughts?

Welcome to the forum Torres

The 300v that you are currently running is great motor oil. The 10w40 will be more than enough protection for the summertime. Oil temps do increase some in the summer compared to the winter, but nothing that a solid 10w40 can't handle. Because the transmission and engine share the same oil, the 40at might shear some but nothing to worry about there. I honestly believe these bikes can handle a high quality 10w30 without sacrificing protection. But I will experiment with that first to put some real world numbers behind it.

There is no harm that can be done by trying a 15w50. You may lose a little fuel economy if that is a concern of yours. Look into doing some UOA to see how the oil is performing in your machine.

I have a 08 Hayabusa

Hi Kjack,

Hayabusa is a very nice machine, on of my bikes was the zx12r but the busa still the leader

I will keep then in the 10w40..., thats what the brand advice. I also put the chance to change to the castrol power 1 race or the Elf moto race, but it seems for what I read, motul is a better choice.

I also do a Trackday once a while

cheers

1) Motul
2) One of the fastest bullet bikes ever
3) Arai helmet?

Please tell me you have a hand made Arai.

I ran their ester oil in my Polaris twin cylinder quad for its life, and changed it every ten hours (and then dumped that oil in the mower). Ran beautifully, never had an issue, and sold it running perfectly.

I change every 5-6000kms not more.

The handling of this bike is like a 600 but with a liter engine..., 3 maps of traction control and 3 maps of power separated. I do like this "babe"

actually I use a Portuguese Brand helmet..., it seems to starting to be popular ate US. The brand is Nexx the model is Blade..., quite nice, very light helmet and lot cheaper then an Arai.

The Blade (maybe Diablo also) comes with this bag of stickers that allows you to reshape the inside of the helmet. Did you try using them? Does it really work or is it just a gimmick?

I've got a weird shaped head, so finding a helmet that fits well is always a problem.

All the fullface helments came with this kit. I didnt use them yet cause my helmet fits tight. But I would say the shim kit it is a must, special when we need to adapt the helmet to our head. Another good thing about this helmet is the aerodinamics and angle of sight.

mates,

been searching for prices of the 300v and is about 70eur a galon :S

The castrol power racing 5w40 is 45eur a galon

What you think about this oil?

cheers

Nice bike.

I've tried pretty much every oil I could find over the years, in a succession of mostly I-4 Sportbikes. To date, Motul 300V is my favorite, closely followed by Redline Motorcycle Oil. Both in 10w40.

I've ridden in temps as high as 117°F, with the Motul 300V in the sump. The shifting never became notchy, even at that extreme temp. The bike stayed running fine. I, however, was ready to pass out.

Hi,

yes I believe that 300v should be one of the best oils arround. Ill use some words that I read on a forum..., it seems de bike as a sore throat. Besides that, its a little pricey.

I bought the Castrol Power 1 Racing 10w-50

I prefer to sacrifice some hp to protection

And by some reading on foruns it seems to be a nice oil too..., silky gearbox, engine quiter, etc...

lets see

I will post my butt dyno results
