ZT2800 Hydrogear - 500 Hours on Original Fluid / Filter

The hydro will last just fine if you are changing it now. You will have a higher chance of a axle failure, or hub failure that you will of a lubrication failure.

I have personally owned and still do own eaton 1100's that had over 1700 hrs on original fluid and filter. Fluid and filter were nasty. They work fine.

Good to hear! I'm assuming they're significantly different than a lawnmower then? I always hear very bad things about hydrostatic riding mowers

The hydrostatic riding mowers that commonly fail are the cheap Cub Cadets and other bottom of the barrel consumer machines sold at Lowes and Home Depot with sealed under-sized transmissions.

Got it!
I changed the fluid and filters along with bleeding. I've of course managed to unlock rainy season. It hasn't stopped raining since I have done that.

Those hydrogear ZT2800's are nice drives. I had them on my 2010 model year Cub Z-Force ZTR. These were HG's first "premium residential" drives that they eventually started putting on lower end commercial ZTRs. They drain themselves when you remove the low mounted spin-on filters. The fill plugs were in TIGHT on mine. Probably best to check those before you drain. They should bleed themselves in a few F-R cycles with the bypass levers pulled.

You should be fine, the M1 is a decent substitute that you can find on the shelf; I actually had HPL create a 20w50 package for the ZT3100s in my Ariens that's available, and I think @Drew7a talked Dave into making a 5w50 version as well. In reality, these seem really easy on the gear oil; the Amsoil I drained at 140 hours looked brand new.

Bleeding procedure: pull the disconnects underneath, start the engine, and slowly but fully engage the directional levers forwards and backwards probably 15-20 times each, until the units quiet down. Amsoil had just a little more whine to it than OEM or HPL, but it didn't bother the units one bit. Then re-engage the disconnects and enjoy!
Where can one find the one the 20w50 for hydro gear pumps and transaxles from HPL at, and if you don't mind me asking and the small engine oil they offer? I have called them, and the lady I spoke to only knows of the 10W40 small engine oil. Looking for a 15w50 oil, I mow commercially, and all the dealers and Briggs reps say to run 15w50 in the vanguard 37hp. I have used Amsoil Hydo oil in the the hydro's, but they were just as noisy and got dirty twice as fast as the Kawaski oil it seemed. My Kawasaki does not like Amsoil small engine oil and is more lot noisier with it. It seems to like Mobil 4t Motocycle oil the best so far. The Amsoil small engine oil is low in zzdp but the hpl is decent form what they have said.

Ask @High Performance Lubricants if they can do a 15w50 in the Small Engine series, but I believe the HT/HS is 4.26 on the 10w40 which should be sufficient if Briggs says a 40 grade or 50 grade can be used…. But Dave will get you the right stuff. The HPL Hydro can be ordered thru Mary Jane, along with the small engine oils.

Mary Jane is at (815) 932-3288 👍🏻
