He's a knowledgeable person who explains things well. However, I think he comes off as a shill to some people. I've read a few comments on Facebook of people being distrustful of his oil information because it comes off as an on-going Mobil 1 ad campaign. I can see their point. There are some things that he tends to gloss over and toes the line a bit with Mobil's marketing. Lake's done that at times as well though, so have others.

But AI will be the death of good content.

Say what you want but that is the first place I go for information when I have to replace a window motor or pull an intake manifold or replace sheet rock or pull the covers on a washing machine. Yes there is a lot of AI generated content but that is pretty easy to detect. A1 Auto has help me a lot on replacing parts and very good videos. I will keep using it because there are some honest professionals on there that are just trying to help others with the same problems

I think there's a place for AI in very limited settings. I don't want AI to do my google searches for me, to give a summary of my email, slap together every cliche #1 radio single into something spoon fed to my ears, or anything like that. I think it should remain in the fantasy realm. Using AI in a story/chapter based video game to adapt and throw new challenges at a player based on their playstyle, creating a dynamic environment unique to each player, is something I would be okay with. Leave it in the fantasy realm though. I like my autonomy. I'm fine with AI provoking me to think (so long as it's not making stuff up), not doing my thinking for me.

Pretty sure it’s younger people that fall for that, and that fall for the infallibility of ChatGPT, and AI in general.

Older people have a well-developed “hogwash” detector. We’ve heard enough “hogwash” over the years, this is the same stuff in a new package.

While we're ranting on YouTube another thing helping with demise of the platform are the YouTube Shorts. I get that they had to compete with the TikTok's of the world, but the majority of the content is just plain Brain rot. Hate to generalize, but the younger generation seem to have the attention span of a gnat.

So did the boomers when they were that age, but instead of Youtube shorts and Tiktoks, they cured their attention span and boredom with amphetamines and quaaludes.

I agree. He does lots of other automotive videos that do not even mention oil, Mobil 1 or otherwise.

I'm sorry, but hearing lousy fake speech, such as "Five Doubleyou Three Zero" to descibe 5W30 leads me to the "X" at the top right of the screen.

Keep in mind that YT is a business for these creators, and unfortunately clickbait is what's promoted by the YT algorithm. Play their game by their rules, or sit on the bench. Jason probably hates it too, but he has a business to run.

How much advertising by other companies in the world do you despise? Liberty Mutual and their Limu Emu comes to mind. They have a business to run, and that business is selling insurance not making me personally happy. Apparently they have the data to show this campaign works because they continue to run it, no matter how utterly mindless I find it. Clickbait thumbnails and titles on YT are no different.

Yes, and I am also tired of Project Farm, Nate's Interactive Auto, and many more that are not AI. The great thing about Project Farm is though - if you can stand his Muppet voice, is that if you want to find out what product he tested is the best you just skip towards the end of his video. I don't take anything seriously about oil from YouTube. And the comments....oh boy. The comments are chock full of morons, much like Facebook comments. YouTube is a great resource for previewing a repair job on a vehicle or learning how to do something so that you are better prepared, outside of pure entertainment.

The Trivago guy drives me insane, same with the "BetMGM" commercials on Prime, and that doesn't even scratch the surface.

It's mindless because that's the bulk of the audience. You tailor your message to appeal to the largest segment and that segment has apparently proven to respond positively to things that underscore why the state of the West is so rapidly in decline.

Can't really blame YT for tolerating AI when all their measures are indicating that AI generated videos are creating engagement and getting likes, comments and subscriptions.
