I just purchased a 2018 Kona AWD Limited. I installed a Fram Ultra at 50 miles. I dumped the factory fill at 100 miles, and put in Mobil 1 Extended 5-30 and 1 Qt of 0w-40 Redline to get more moly into the mix. I will be running this oil for 1,000 miles (2 weeks away)and doing an oil analysis. I do very short trips to work, 10 miles takes 13 minutes in the morning and that 10 miles takes 30 minutes coming home. I like to get into boost when I can, so I am a severe driver there. I have already "gained oil"-->(fuel) 1/8 of a qt est., so I am thinking I will be closer to the 4,000 mile oil change mark. I will be doing oil analysis on all my oil dumps. I will also be doing some towing of a small boat if the DCT will not hit over heat warnings right away. It shouldn't since it will mostly be local and not to much traffic. That same subSUV/trans is rated for 2800lbs in Europe w/brakes and I am at 900lbs.
My next oil fill will be Amsoil Sig Series 5w30/0w-40 cocktail. And in Minnesota winters I am still up in the air on which oil I will be running, It has to be some form of 0w oil and as of now it looks like Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 or Mobil 1 ESP 0w40 that is used in the Corvette, so I can save some $$ vs Amsoil I use in the summer and in hard use/heat. I may just convert over to Mobil 1 ESP 0w-40 year round if my oil analysis # comes out good on that oil, but then again I bet the 0w-40 will get a premium price so it may not be far from Amsoil, we will see. I use the largest local Caterpillar truck dealership in Minneapolis for my oil analysis since they are $19 and they have a nice modern lab.
