My Dad bought an 07 Tacoma SR5 Double Cab with the 4-banger, 2WD, and 4-speed auto. So far there hasn't been any problems in the last 4k or so. The 4-cylinder is a bit slow, especially with the auto, but my Dad doesn't seem to mind. We have only towed a utility trailer that weighed around 1000 pounds, along with a fully loaded bed. The truck didn't seem to noticed the load at all. The truck rides very nice and is very quiet, except on acceleration. In fact, when we were towing with it for the first time, my Dad even forgot the trailer was back there it was so quiet. The truck rides more like a car than a truck, so it's a bit on the boring side. We definitely like it though. It's good for what he does, which includes occasional hauling and towing, and commuting to his office job. As for the appearance, I think it's a good looking truck, but that is subjective of course. It could use some better wheels. The small steel wheels look very basic. Overall, it's been a good truck. I would personally only get the four-cylinder, because the mileage of the V6 is very poor. You might as well get a full-size at that point. I'm pretty sure that the four-cylinder gets at least 25 mpg highway with the auto (but maybe more or less). However, for a mid-size, somewhat boring, dependable truck, I'd say it's very good. Oh, and the four-cylinder's oil capacity is 6 quarts, which is very nice. When I changed out the factory fill at 2500 it was a nice dark honey color. Anyway, those are just some observations from a person who doesn't drive this truck all that much. Oh, and when he bought the truck in the fall of last year, there were plenty of 4-cylinder extra cabs on the lot. However, most of them were of the inferior Convenience Package. My parents had to work pretty hard to find one in the SR5. Still, they got a decent price on it.
