Your The Most Favourite Engine Oil & WHY?

A fairly open question, any Big 5 oil on sale. I am a firm believer in buy from the middle, and these are it. To complete the spectrum those unrated SA style things are the bottom, and even store brands to some extent, and the top is the high end stuff of the Big 5 + all the boutique/designer stuff.

The cheapest SM rated oil I can get that's not store brand.

I've rotated between Citgo, Quaker State, Mobile Clean 5000 and Motorcraft.

Redline because it is one of the toughest oils available, way better than most off the shelf oils, and has gobs of good old zddp. Problem is, it's so good I can't justify using it in any vehicle I own. But I sure use Redline in auto trannies.

Conoco phillips 5w30 semi synthetic great oil good price really good uoa'a
Also like pennzoil but price is way to high and conoco is semi synthetic

Mobil 1 15W-50. I have used it exclusively since 1990 in every type vehicle. One still in use with 300,000 miles. One still in use with 208,000 miles. Several in the 170,000 to 190,000 miles. Never an engine problem, no consumption, no leaks, always better than EPA estimate gas mileage.

Valvoline MaxLife- a solid all around oil. Good moly, decent levels of Z & P, solid TBN. It would be the blue plate special if the price was just a bit better.

Whatever Syn I can get for a good deal. I've enjoyed PP and SynPower, and I'm excited to try the NAPA for the next few OCI's. Might get some closeout QHP or QTP. Used to not pay over 3.00 a qt. Now 3.50 has become acceptable. Still, hard to complain with 7500 mile OCI.

For my motorcycle, which I only get about 1500 miles a year on, and has basically no value, whatever dino I can get cheap. This spring, it's Walgreens Formula Shell. $1.25 a quart, can't go wrong.

I guess I'm all value. But I'm not alone, from the looks of it.

I use to be one of those compulsive BITOGers who lay awake at night pondering what oil would keep my engine in the best possible condition.

I've finally moved past that stage, and buy what's reasonable and brand name. Right now, Mobil Clean 5000 fits that bill.

Cheers.

Amsoil ACD straight 30wt.

Flows as well or better cold than a dino 10w-30.
No VIIs to shear or cause ring land deposits.
Lots of ZDDP.
High HT/HS for it's viscosity.

Now that sounds like an excellent oil.

Anything Valvoline. Quaker State dino and Q Power series. Havoline dino. Valvoline just runs great in anything I've put it in. Quaker State I like because the few UOA's i've seen have been very very good for a Group II. Q Powers UOA's have came back just as good as Synpowers. Same thing with Havoline and it really quiets my grams 2.4L Galant. And on an added note I use Valvoline ATF, power steering, gear oil and grease exclusively.

And like you, Redline is at the top of the list.

I found the ACD first so I'll probably stick with it for the car's entire life but Redline's offerings look just as good.

REDLINE. I was sold the first time I tore into one of my 350's with many hours of abuse and it looked new inside. Tolerances were also within spec for new. UOA's are merely interesting in contrast to a complete tear down.

I totally agree with the UOA vs teardown as some of my UOAs came back ok in the GN even though the engine looked like it had a million miles on it at teardown time.

If I remember right, you had some larger displacement engines with the same or more specific power output as my GN. Are you saying these held up good with the Redline? I'm trying to decide on an oil for my new engine. You can PM me if you want to avoid hijacking the thread. Thanks!
