The Fumoto's are great; I've never had a problem with them and have used them for at least 20 years. They are essentially the only one on the market because no one can copy their patented design or improve upon it.
You're overlooking the fact that the same penalty applies with respect to the OEM plug and threads. Years ago, I had a Honda on which I had changed the oil so many times that the drain threads fatigued and cracked. Had I been less aware, I could have lost that engine just as easily you might lose one to a bad Fumoto.
I'd like to get one for my car, but the instructions on the Fumota site about Cavaliers with the 2.4L engine needing an adapter may apply to me, since the motor in my HHR is an upgraded version of what would have been in the Cavalier.
I sent a message to Fumoto months ago asking if that still applies to the new Ecotecs but never got a response
I've always wanted to try the fumoto valve out, but have heard that the last few drops of oil (the "dirtiest" of it all) won't be able to drain out as easily. True or false?

The threaded portion of the valve doesn't protrude into the pan any farther than the threads on the pan. The amount of old oil left in the pan would be insignificant, IMO.
