Your experience with oil drain valves?
Brand and did it leak?

I know of suredrain, yet heard that they leak.

Bill from Utah just posted a Fumuto valve install.

I am looking for quality, something that will last the life of the vehicle, and hopefully not leak.

I use Fumoto valve in my WRX and have had no leaks from it at all. Change the oil every 5000 kms. I used an original Subaru crush washer to install the valve not the fibre one that was supplied.

I have three Sure Drains and never had a leak. But when I bought a Fumoto, I saw how much easier it is to use and the oil comes out faster. The Sure Drain has a low profile and works well if a Fumoto would stick out too far below the pan.

I had a Sure Drain in my truck for about a year. No leaks at all. It worked great. Then one oil change I lost the fitting used to open it...I go to the store and as it turns out, it was discontinued. One store a few counties away had it, but I decided to just go back to a regular drain plug. I may look into a Fumoto in the future. I would buy a Sure Drain again though if they still made them.

I've used Fumoto valve for 12-15 years without any problems.
Consumer Report magazine years ago said it's well made and a great add on.
Only downside is the oil takes a bit longer to drain the oil.
You can't go wrong with a Fumoto.
Just make sure the valve isn't sticking out where it can be hit by something on the road.
The only vehicle I've ever owned and couldn't use the Fumoto on was a '05 Corolla. The valve stuck out too far.

I have used Fumoto valves for more than 10 years on several cars, and never have any problems. It is a great device.

I use the one that came with the truck ,it uses a 14 mm socket.

You won't have to use that 14MM socket and get hot oil on your fingers or replace gaskets(if needed) with a Fumoto valve, though.
Just a lift and slide over of the lever for a clean hands draining.

I don't get hot oil on my fingers or need to replace the gasket.

I have lots of practice.

Have a Fumoto valve installed on my STi for a little over a year now. No leaks at all, very easy to install and use (FWIW, I used the included fiber gasket/washer and not an OEM metal Subaru one like Daus used on his WRX).

Yeah...me too.....I don't get the drain valve...I only unscrew the drain bolt 3 times a year...

Fumotos on my Accord and Si. Neither sticks out, both have the nipple for plastic tubing and one can drain the oil when it is VERY hot and it flows just fine. Used their washer. Makes mid-OCI sampling a snap. I use a vacuum line rubber cap as a "nipple cap" or just bend a few inches of tubing in half and hold it pinched with a wire tie as a "dirt" cap.

Good for the diyer. My quess is Jiffy lube would wrench it off and still manage to make it leak or crack your drain pan.

They make it easier to control the flow. On some vehicles, like my truck, the oil stream goes out pretty far with the regular drain plug and can make a mess. You have to get the catch pan positioned just right and hope that most of the oil makes it in. On some vehicles, like 4WD Explorers, the oil stream can hit suspension parts and go everywhere. Being able to open a valve with a hose on the end can be a big help.

I've got a Sure Drain on my Corvette and my wife's Honda, and have had no leaks, and I had one on my old 95 Firebird Formula too, also no leaks. It's a great setup, less messy and the slower oil flow makes it easier to take samples.

I use a Fumoto valve on my truck and my dad has ran a Fumoto valve for a while. Neither have failed to perform as they should. My dad has 200k on his fumoto (replaced a fractured Cummins drain plug at around 60k) and he does 5k OCIs.

And some of us change oil a lot more than "3 times a year". Before I changed from 5k OCIs to 10k OCIs, I was changing oil 12 times a year. Having the valve makes it a whole lot easier, especially with the way a Cummins plug starts draining BEFORE it is completely out of the pan.

I’ve used Fumoto values for quite a while on vehicles we have owned including;
2001 Nissan Maxima
2002 Mercury Mountaineer
2004 Acura TL (with extension)
2005 Toyota Highlander
I also have installed them on relatives vehicles;
2005 Honda Ridgeline
2007 Toyota Camry
2007 Honda CRV
No leaks, no issues, they all perform well.
Note; I use crush washers vs the 'blue' washer Fumoto provides.

For me -

Sure Drain: low profile, but took FOREVER to drain, way too long, also annoyingly difficult to tighten the drain hose enough to get the oil to come out at all

Fumoto - less ground clearance (perhaps 3/8" less), but much , much faster draining than the Fram, excellent quality, never leaked a drop

So good people, can you please post a link to buy one... Sure Drain and Fumoto Drain also what's the price for these?
