I just let old timers cling to their myths and ways. No sense in trying to undo a lifetime of anecdotal reasoning and narrow thinking.

OT: I have a friend who says it's safe to test the alternator on a modern car by disconnecting the battery.
We came to an impasse giving another friend advice.
He's not going to change his beliefs just because I'm an electrical engineer.

My grandpa is 80 and gasped that I did one year oil changes up 10k. I don't try to change his or my dad's ways though.. it's their business. They both know if I do it's probably ok and don't give me a hard time for it. Had a few wrecks but have never blew a motor or trans.

What I would do if my grandfather or dad was shocked with my long intervals, is I'd pop off my valve cover and show them how squeaky clean it is.
