We all like oil and such.

But what are your other favorite aspects of performance mods?

I like:

Exhaust systems. Listening to almost every muffler available for the Mustang community is cool. Straight through, chambered, turbo style. I like how you can change the tone and sound of your exhaust depending on different setups.

Camshafts. How you can change the TQ/HP, rev range, sound, based on lift, duration, lobe separation.. More power down low or up high, taking advantage of differnet measuements if you have a turbo, SC...

Tires. I find it amazing how many different tread patterns there are to handle in rain, snow, performance tires, etc..

I could read this stuff for days..

What about you?

I like turbos and superchargers.
I like ported heads.
I like stroker cranks.
I also like disguised performance stuff so nobody thinks you can win a race.

The most improvement that I experienced, in term of performance and handling, for the money is upgrade tires and wheels to +1. Next is change OEM shocks to Bilstein performance/sport shocks.

Suspension mods for handling.

So I can butcher in 'their' "twisties" the grossly uninformed/unsuspecting who quite ignorantly think an f body will flip, or spin out of control if it is asked to turn left or right.

I like a snappy automatic trans. Proper torque converter and rear end ratio. Playing with TV cables and adjustable vacuum modulators.

My FIL yanked a wheezy 250 I-6 from a 1980 chevy truck and dropped a (chevy) 307 V8 in without changing the trans or rear gears. (The 307 had been in front of a powerglide so the three speed trans was an improvement.) That was just what the truck needed!

Heads and Cam.
I have, from time to time, used the little blue bottle.
I also like more boost out of the Buick's blower.

Ive sold all my 4 wheeled performance toys.. but my last was a 1994 mustang GT 5.0 5spd, i didnt have alot of money back then so simple mods were what i could afford.. although before i sold it i was spraying a 100 shot at the 1/8 mile in it..

nowadays its two wheeled performance, #1 TIRES & SUSPENSION .. then exhaust, intake, computer tuner.. most performance bikes are making a pretty mean amount of power for street use.. not much need in my eyes to open up the cases.

i like sleepers!
i like making something out of nothing like my brother did with his stock bottom end, ported e7 headed fox that ran 7.7 natural in the 1/8

i love compression because it changes everything, but i like the sound the sound and throttle response the most

but it all starts with the heads...if you cant breath you aint goin no where. and it feels so good to smoke some rich punk with nothin but money threw at his car with something you just did some work to in the right spots. sure it sucks making home made subframe connectors and welding up stock control arms and spending 50 hrs porting a junk pair of cast iron heads but its worth it when you get to the track. because thats what hot rodding is all about! not how much money you spend because you couldnt buy stuff back in the day you had to make it

the mustang boys around here had a sayin like that. it was "world product heads+ 373s+ e303= fast" lol

Bravo for the sleepers. My last street machine was a really quiet 572 camaro, many could still feel the power but most underestimated it because it wasn't NOISY.

All n/a for me.

The single best modification I ever did on any of my cars was adding a Paxton supercharger onto my 87 Mustang GT. I'll never forget that feeling when I went full throttle for the very first time after getting it installed!

My second favorite mod is a rear end gear swap. I went from 2.73s to 3.55s in that Mustang (before the blower was put on) and I went from 2.73s to 3.42s in a 95 Trans Am, and later swapped 3.42s for 4.10s in a 98 Firebird Formula. Swapping rear end gears just made such a massive improvement in throttle response and a 3 tenths improvement in the quarter mile time on each of those cars.

Handling mods, braking mods, lighting mods, porting/polishing, chip-tuning, firming up an automatic transmission, and keeping a stock appearance.

Raw speed is nothing if you can't control it, or see where you're going.

Driver, tires, and suspension mods for me. I got a lesson 2 weeks ago at a regional autocross event that showed my low speed course setup is not good on a faster course... And that I have a ways to go before I'm getting the maximum out of my car.
The car that took FTD and the overall PAX'd win was a supercharged miata, I'm not sure how much HP it has other than alot. There was also a supercharged RX-8 which sounded amazing as well.

i have done the heavy mod years ago, when i had a garage. iam in an apartment now. so iam having my shop put 4.11 gears in the the rear. i drive a 2001 dakota, its good enough, not spectacle.

I mod car since 18, I love Head/Cam mod, second is nitrous.

I been thru few camaro having head/cam/full exhault, full bolt on, full suspenstion, tune, nitrous, gear, 9in rear end, build T56 tranmission, yank torque converter, performing build 700R4. tires. since 18 I been thru a bad street racing wreck, and also learn that those peoples that want you street racing, they just want see your car crash. then I quit street racing and went track only. then it need more mod, more moneys and less time driving since its like 8 mpg on street ( u better have a back up car if your main car is mod heavy ). and more time under the hood. travel 500 miles to get it tune....alot moneys, time, stress, Bleeding , cursing,kicking..... I want take a break

Mabe later when I have moneys Imma get a Z06 or ZR1 and leave that 500+whp stock ^^ I still love that horse power feeling, feeling that car is pulling hard, feeling that front end is up the air, feeling that 150mph, love the cam choppy sound, love the smell of tires burn out. love heard that engine is roar. love the raw sound just header. that adrenaline rush feeling make your heart pump so fast. Your hand shaking after u pass that quarter miles. I need a break

The white boat is a single speed Deaver hydro 1/4 boat. With the current 622ci dart motor it will run low 7's with 2 pounds of NOS. We run the fastest bracket allowed (8.00) without a driver enclosed capsule. We slow it down and keep it easier on parts. This boat has gone 180+ with a blown alcohol deal.

We hurt the motor after 3 seasons. Found some metal after cutting open filter. We think its bearing and or cam bearing material......
