Your experiences, is "pull me over red" a real thing?

It wasn't for me, and when I had a red car it was my 1990 eclipse turbo - quite a fast car in its day.

It had a performance envelope of a 1979 Porsche 928 which in its day was a supercar.

I exploited its acceleration and speed regularly cant recall being popped.

My mustangs are both red and I've only ever been pulled over once in either of them for not having my seatbelt on, despite being a spirited driver.

Just curious what your experiences have been. I've heard of "pull me over red" many times, but is it a real thing? I've never owned a red car but have always liked them.

It most certainly is, back in 1982 my neighbor had a red Chevrolet Camaro, think it was a 79 model, well, she went through a red light, and got pulled over. She got pulled over and told the cop, the car behind me also ran the red light, for whatever reason he was focused on her car, now I do not know the color of the other car and I was not there, but her next car was a white car.

Ticket for 5 over (40 in a 35) in a red Cavalier Z24
Ticket for no front plate red Audi A3
Ticket for Tint too dark red Audi A3

A slightly different perspective on red - my oldest son is a 16 year police officer veteran. He is the department's lead traffic accident investigator. In all his years in this capacity he has never seen a red car involved in a traffic accident. Silver/grey is the most common. He says it's because they blend in with the pavement color.

FWIW,

Scott

Edit: It's also interesting that with the accident recreation models they plug all the data into, even the type of tire on the car is a consideration. The models they use have different friction coefficients for the particular tire on the vehicle. He investigated a double fatality recently and it was amazing just how many hours were spent on the investigation and report. It's a science. For good reason, in this case.

Yeah happened to me and it was the best thing ever . 23 years old young and stupid . Brand new Mustang GT . I was going 53 in a 45 drunk as heck and it was 2am in Small Town U.S.A . The police new of me and my father , they pushed me around and called me names I won't repeat here . Threw me back in the car and followed me close to home. I was lucky and I knew it and I learned a lesson from it. That was 30 years ago and I have never drove after having more than two drinks in a night . That's my red car story .

That's awesome there's a program that breaks down all the data into it - it's like GIS (geographic information systems) but for accident reports!

Got pulled over for going 2mph over. The car was green 🤷‍♂️
For my son and the department he works in, you wouldn't even get a passing glance.

It's outrageous how reckless people can be. They rotate their radar units to various schools. He says people exceeding 50mph in 25mph school zones - with small children present! - is an every day occurrence.

I don’t think it matters. In most cases where people think they were profiled for paint color the “red” car is also a sports car.

E.G. Is a red Camaro more likely to be pulled over for 10-over than a red minivan? Probably - especially if the exhaust is loud.

I had a couple BIL's that were car salesman and they always said red cars have a higher resale value but I've never heard that red cars get pulled over more. I've owned several red vehicles and have only had two tickets, one for speeding in the wife's 85 Eldorado and one in my Bronco for running thru a railroad crossing while it was blinking, doh! The Bronco was red and white but I guessing the color had nothing to do with it 🤷‍♂️
