After obliterating the tread of my Kumho Solus TA91s in under four months and 9,000 miles (the guys at the shop were quite impressed!) and starting work in a new place without a fun mountain pass to haul through every weekend, I've shifted my priorities away from disposable tires to harder, deeper tread tires that stand a chance at giving me a service life measured in years, not months.

Thus, the 740 TW rating, 70k mile warranty, and 12/32" tread depth of the Yokohama YK-GTX tires caught my eye. Got them put on today, had a very pleasant experience at Discount Tire.

These tires are SOFT. Really mushy sidewalls on these, significantly moreso than my previous set. Corners feel Buick-esque now. I'm fine with that, as I'm mostly driving in town on Oklahoma City's pothole-ridden roads these days. I was quite pleased with the low noise level and compliant ride on the drive home from the shop.

Being a deeper treaded tire, I was disappointed by the level of tread squirm I felt as light crosswinds swayed me around on the highway. I am certain that this will improve with time, particularly as I break them in over these next few weeks, but this is definitely something to note if you're looking for a more direct feel. On-center steering response has been destroyed and inputs feel quite delayed. My previous set of Kumhos felt telepathic by comparison, even when brand new (at a measly 9/32" tread depth).

I'm most satisfied by how well these tires balanced out. I'm sensitive to vibrations and drive a car that transmits just about everything to the cabin and steering wheel, so I usually have to go back a second time to get the balance right. However, for the first time in years, this set of Yokohamas balanced out brilliantly on the first time with very little weight. Smooth sailing as far as I can tell.

It won't be useful commenting on grip without a couple hundred miles of break-in, so I'll save that for later. I look forward to seeing how long these last me and how much they sharpen up with a little bit less tread to wobble around.

read the terms of the warranty and keep up with rotations if the warranty requires it

from my 1 experience w/Yoko, they wear very quickly

I put Discount Tire exclusive Yokoyama tires on our Acura TL.

It was used mostly to take 300 mile road trips every 3 weeks and also my wife's daily driver.

The OEM Bridgestone that came with the car new had gone 25K or so and still have a lot of tread left but their grip on wet roads was very poor.

The DTY (Discount Tire Yokohama) tires seemed great at first - but I had sidewall damage on two of them.

Must have hit something but never recalled hitting anything big, like a giant pothole.

I then discovered abnormal wear on the inside of the tires, on all 4 not just the front - I had the alignment checked and it came back good.

DT agreed something wasn't right with the tires and gave me credit towards the purchase of new tires and I then put Michelin on it and the abnormal wear disappeared.

I have not purchased a Yokohama anything since -

I will add - the Yokohama tires made the car ride really smooth - way better than the Bridgestone OEM tires. So that is one thing we liked.

No doubt, I do look forward to taking advantage of that 70,000 mile warranty when the time comes and will carefully maintain these tires.

Today was my first time making use of a treadwear warranty and Discount Tire made it really painless. I wish I knew that earlier!

Sorry, for some reason I thought I had my car listed in my signature!

It's a 2021 BMW 530e.
Id be all over a set of dws06+ on that car, UHP performance but not obnoxious. (mine ride better over bumps than the pirelli scorpion as+3 I had)
DT has a 30day full satisfaction guarantee if you decide you want something else.

I've gone through a couple sets of DWS06+ on a different BMW and really like that tire. It's a great all-rounder. However, I was only ever able to get 20-25k miles out of them. It may be wishful thinking, but I'm shooting for 30k out of these Yokos.

I hear that, but round and blacks(standard touring tires) on a nice bmw? I'd hate to give up the " ultimate driving experience" to eek out a few more miles from tires.
Just saying you have options.
you should also get prorated credit as the dws06+ have a 50k warranty.

If I wanted an "ultimate driving experience" I would have bought a 240i instead of this 4,100lb barge! :ROFLMAO:

I may change my tune and get bored of these touring tires in a bit, but I've been looking for a softer ride for long storm chasing trips and these definitely deliver. If I do, I'll definitely spring for the DWS. I think they were around the same price, even.

that's typical treadlife for UHP all-season tires :sneaky:

You'd probably like grand touring summer tires

Michelin Primacy 4, Goodyear EfficientGrip, Conti PremiumContact, etc.

Yes, UHP tire, that is the life span.
Try grand touring like Michelin Primacy.

I’ve had a couple sets of yoko tires and was impressed with how well they balanced and just how smoothly they would glide over interstate tarmac. Smoothness and low noise were top notch as well as dry handling. Wet handling varied based on tire and vehicle. I’ve never had a set ride so smoothly as Yokohamas at speed, and also found them to wear evenly and without drama. If they still made the AVS DB, I’d be all over them. They weren’t long lasting, but that soft rubber was gooood to drive year around in all conditions.

Agreed. I've never had a set of tires run as smoothly as these Yokos. I've used Kumho, Dunlop, Continental, Pirelli, Falken, Goodyear, and Bridgestone within the past five or so years. Supposedly Michelin is good about this also, but I haven't had the chance to try their tires.
