Year old batteries on the shelf at walmart 😭

I decided to grab an everstart off the shelf at Walmart and when I got it down it was dated 4/24 I had to get the fourth one from the back to get one dated 4/25 . The associate saw me climbing like a monkey on the shelf and helped me get it Just like home depot, nobody helps until they see something questionable being done. I just can't believe they had some much old stock.

All that needed to happen was for new stock to be shoved up, into the battery rack without rotating the old stock.
BTW, what size did you need?

A few years back I needed a G49 battery.
A few stores with G48's had no 49's.
A few had 6-8 month old ones.
Walmart had a nearly no batteries, so I waited.
Four days later, Walmart had racks filled with brand new ones.

The joke was Home Depot's "unknown battery department".
Ever see a section of batteries all over a year old, all covered with an inch of foul dust?

I just bought an AGM EverStart AGM power sports for my maybe 2 yr old generator. The FLA batt that came with it was already leaking after 2 years. This will be the first EverStart I have bought.
I might get a EverStart group 65AGM for my 2012 truck. But might get the Costco AGM instead. Depends on warranty. Costco is more forgiving of returns, but not sure if that applies to batteries.

Costco said they would take a smaller battery for core return as well. So that is good to know. I might give them a riding mower core. I don't want to pay a core.......... It is a scam I tell you........

Costco is three years prorated warranty (flooded or AGM) whereas the Walmart if four years free replacement for AGM.
The batteries, whether Walmart (on the west coast) or Costco are supplied by Clarios, so essentially the same.

The only difference is that both Walmart and Costco get their AGMs randomly from various Clarios factories around the world. It can be from Mexico, USA, Germany, China or Korea. There is usually a sticker on top, or imprinted into the left or right side, near the bottom with country of origin.

On some forums, I have heard that Costco can sometimes give full refunds on the prorated battery warranty...but I wouldn't count on it...thus I switched my last three purchases to Walmart, and will continue. Why not when its basically the same AGM battery?

Good to know.
Now I just need to decide if I can take the Walmart Auto Center slow service. But that warranty looks like a no brainer. If I have a problem and need to utilize it, it will be good to know it is going to be swapped for a new one.

I'll put up with the slow service for a better warranty. I never thought of bringing my tester....duh. I will insist on a fairly recent date, or I will walk, er I mean drive to Costco.......

I bought a deka from family farm that was I believe 4 months old and wasn’t thrilled. I did take my tester though and it tested @100% of health and charge, so it eased my mind a bit. My local Napa has an oddysey setting there that’s over a yr old, as well as several AAA batteries that are about the same. I’d pay more not to have to go to Walmart and I usually do.

I just go at 7:00AM. The Auto center does not open till 8. Or 9?? Either way, pick my own, test, checkout.

Why would you test a new battery? You want a full charge before load testing it and a battery sitting on a shelf for a month or two isnt going to be at a full charge.

I use a cheap digital tester, and I am most interested in the internal resistance before I buy it - which tells me the basic quality of the battery to begin with.

That Walmart I go to does manage to clear out their older batteries during yearly peak demands. First very cold weather really empties their battery rack, and summer hot days also sees a peak of sales but not as big as the first cold weather.
