Okay, Comcast brought me a surprise when I opened my labtop today...they decided to discontinue the service!

Anyways, I'm on the road, and not going to have time to run some place to buy new stuff....so, until then-I need protection!

What would be a good free one for a short time...until I get time to shop around for a new one.

AVG? Avast? Something new?

Anything but MSE though, beacuse last time I used it , it let a well known virus on to this computer...and took a while to get rid of it!

Thank you guys!

AVG is great because its so light weight . however over the years their quality has been decreasing , I recently switched from Norton to Bitdefender.
I love it!

Best I have found is Comodo Internet Security.

Try the free version. If you like it hold off for an offer and you can get it at a reduced price.

Free version offers great protection.

AVG let a destructive virus on my computer awhile back, Avast has been great since.

Immunet, which is a wrapper for ClamAV.
Just ignore it trying to get you to upgrade to Immunet Plus.

Another vote for Avast Free here..It is consistently rated near the top on the different AV test sites (A-V Comparatives, PC Mag.com, etc). It works just as well as some of the paid AV's and their support is excellent, both from contacting Avast directly or posting in their users' forum. It is just as lightweight as the other programs too, and is updated every 4 hours. They never bug me about upgrading to the paid version, either. I highly recommend Avast, no questions about it. Excellent free protection.

Ad-Aware AV.

You can get the free version and upgrade later if you feel like it.

I have the Pro version and like it a lot.

Recently found 23 suspect files (mainly in e-mails)in a work computer that runs Avast free.If you dont check your system with a different program every now and then, you have no idea what stuff is getting thru.

Any AV will work well for you if you stay away from porn sites and don't open up every attachment people send to you. On the other hand, nothing is completely safe. Just be careful and pick one that the PC mags rated highly.

Avast is very good, I could have McAffee from my ISP for free, but prefer to stay with Avast. I didn't like AVG its interface is not user friendly and it caused a lot of grief falsely indicating a very serious trojan infection on my son's computer that it said it could not fix. There was no trojan on his computer. Go with Avast for sure.

I have to agree with this.
I run MSE or nothing at all because I take care to analyze what I am looking at. No sketch sites or attachments = no virus problems.

I miss MSE, since moving from Windows XP to Windows 8. I use the free McAfee subscription that's offered when anyone purchases ATT UVerse.

I had Avast a couple years ago and the ads drove me away. Not sure if they still do that with the free users.

Depends where you might go, or what you like to click on. I.E. suspicious links, websites, emails. I would advise against Norton and McAfee. I personally like and recommend ESET products, and specifically use Smart Security, basically All In One protection. Not one Antivirus is perfect, just remember that.

A bunch of truth to that...

Tried to get rid of Norton and bring it back (based on a sugestion), and it is still giving me issues...I'm thinking they really want money for this....

Gotta decide....may give Avast the first try...
