It calls for obviously yamalube 20-40w being a yamaha bike but I noticed the engine gets alittle noiser when hot and Being I am such a schaeffers oil fan I was thinking about using some 20-50w racing oil in it.. I live in sickly hot florida so cold is non existent here unfortunatley. This bike is a 05 and I just got it. Whats your thoughts? I've heard of some guys running various different brands and weight oils in there bikes including my model. The bikes gears and wet clutch are all lubricated by the engine oil.

send them an email and ask if they have any additives that might interfere with a wet clutch system. There is a debate going on if additives like Moly might cause clutch slippage.

Im running Mystik Oil JT8 Diesel oil in 15w50. Its a syn blend and my Yamaha that calls for 20w50 loves it so far.

Thanks, I was looking at 15-50w next as a second option from redline or Mobil 1 but they discontinued the red cap oil so i'll stay away from Mobil, Yamalube no doubt has to make a factory spec oil that is in spec with EPA standards. So the EPA does not care about what protects an engine the best only emissions are on there mind. Anyone with sense knows this, Anyone else have any ideas? I am not a new users either, I been on this forum for years so I am not some amature newbie, I just lost my old info cause I have not logged on for so long. Anyone else have experience with moly on a wet clutch? Royal purple Schaeffers racing oil? I swear by schaeffers for 4 strokes, And klotz for 2 strokes. What else is extremley high rated for 4 stroke bikes? Keep in mind this is a 15k RPM engine.

IIRC?.... Schaeffers does recommend their racing oil for motorcycles with wet clutches. I've never used any of the high moly oils (schaeffers-redline..ect) in my cycle so I have no first hand experience with that.

You might want to check some of the sport bike sites to kinda see whats the "hot" oil they're using. I would think any of the motul, elf, or even ansoil or mobil v-twin brands would work for you. You bike is spec'd for 40 weight oil, but being it's run thru out the clutch and trans also, it will shear out of grade in hard use so the 20/50 should work.If it shears to even a low 40 wt your still good.Redline oils contain some of the highest moly you'll find in any oil, but I don't hear alot of clutch slippage complaints from users.,,

I honestly did not know that redline had alot of moly, And shear is my main concern aswell as possible oil starvation, Motul I never used, Amsoil I would use if sold in stores, I have not heard any complaints about redline. This is a inclined inline-4 engine, The reason I wanted to use schaeffers or any oil with moly is cause of its ability to stick to metal so well, If ever the engine is subjected to oil starvation at anytime which on a sport bike hard cornering, High reving or even the occasional accidental drop on its side while idleing will do it. I check alot of sites but these guys run to many different brands that its hard to pick one.

Is your bike blue, if so I want it? Ever since spending 40,000 miles on a YZF600r I've yearned for an R6 -06 or R6S 06-present. The newer R6 looks like cheezy junk to me.

I don't think a 50wt is that great unless you're doing alot of idling or slow speeds above say 95F. It just seems it would sap some of the zingyness and revvability of the motor.

Stick with JASO MA oils.

Welcome back!

It's actually the 04 red and black I goofed above saying 05 but its all the same, And just to continue on this message I have talked to a few r6 and sport bike owners that run this scheaffers racing oil without any problems so I used it and it seems to run great after 50miles of me riding, The old oil had a bad air bubble problem don't know what that is caused from and hope it did not cause any bearing wear, Anyway to answer your question about the r6, My r6 had its body style from 03-05 but this body style was so popular and highly praised that it is still made today as the yamaha R6S, There are actually 2 models which I only learned of when I came across a 09 that was almost identical to mine, I thought the dealer was lying so I went home and researched abit, I was floored to learn about it, My 04 only has 3600miles on it I got it from a guy that bought it new from the dealer and just paid the $8.5k lloan off, not only knows nothing about bikes but was scared of it, he is single probably thinking this bike would get him laid, failed to do so, did not relize how much the bike in the condition and mileage is actually worth, and had to have his bass boat nowwhich I staed to him I have cash on hand now! I caught his ad 4 minutes after he posted i, was the first caller and next day when I went for it he had 95 calls, I lucked out big time! No, I got away with grand theft and to top it off he included a $150 scratch free full face HJC cl-14 graphite series helmet with smoked visor and the bike!,its not even broken in yet and was stored in his a/c ccntroled house! Not a single scratch or even swirl mark on it! Nobody will even know its a 04.

Oh one more question, Is it normal to get alot of air coming out of the oil fill orifice with the cap removed at all when at idle or even reving of course? This would indicate to me massive blow by on a car, I am new to 4 stroke bikes, Help me out. Just concerns on my parts. The old oil which had bad air bubbles in it after only a simple idle was a concern for me, The new oil has alittle but nothing like the old oil, And it was air I can conforim not milky mositure. The bike runs great otherwise.

Yes some air will come out of the fill hole when running. I have the same engine in my 2007 FZ6. It runs just fine on 10w-40 or 20w-50 oil. However, on cold mornings the 20w-50 will make shifting a little more clunky. Any HDEO oil will work fine in these engine, they are pretty long lived, some forum(FZ6) members are nearing 100k miles and the engines are fine.

I've been using Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w-40, and I've never noticed any problems. I've also used Royal Purple, but that made the gears feel harsh when I shifted them. I think I'm gonna try Amsoil next and stick with that so I can go with the extended drain intervals.

Also, check out www.r6live.com

It's a forum dedicated to R6 owners. There's a stickied thread in the Maintenance & Technical section about what oil everyone is using, and their opinions.

Keep using the M1 4T, as good an oil as there is on the market. Why keep switching? Bored? You can use the M1 for extended OCIs too!

i used m1 4t for about 6k and i always had a clutch chatter while taking off fast from a stop. ive since switched to r-t6 and love it so far clutch chatter is gone. was thiking about amsoil but prob no need this r-t6 works great

I have used their 20w50 racing oil in three Harleys (including the transmissions/primaries) and have been very happy with it. Haven't had any clutch slippage whatsoever.

I've used Schaeffer oils in my last three Japanese wet clutch bikes (Kawa, Suzuki, Suzuki) with excellent results. My rep sells a lot to Gold Wing riders with good results. He says that Sheaffer HQ told him that because 7000 20W-50 has not been tested for wet clutch certification it carries a not-suitable label for warranty claim purposes--but it works great. Salesrep, here on the board, says that the Schaeffer factory guys use it in all their bikes, both Harleys and others, and tell him to recommend it for all motorcycles.

It would be a good idea to check the crankcase vent on your bike. The oil isn't overfilled, is it?--center of the window with the bike upright is the requirement for most engines; not sure about yours.
