Xp Home only recognizes 1 cpu.

My other Computer crapped out, So I'm stuck using a gateway server with dual xeon 550 processors that I had stashed away for the time being. It had xp pro which supports dual cpu's, But the hard drive failed and all I had to put back on it was xp home. It does see both cpu's but it only uses one, Now it's a real dog.

So, Does anyone know any tricks to make this piece of gigantic arse khrap work right?

XP Home only recognizes 1 CPU, nothing you can do. Why can't you install XP Pro, loose the disk?

I don't recall XP home only being able to use 1 CPU but I could be wrong. Are you sure you're not just displaying the activity from both cores on one graph? Check the view menu, there's an option for that.

I bought it used and it was already installed, And I only have home edition.

I already tried that. Before when I ran cpu-z I could use the selection tab to see the other cpu, But now I cant.

I think I was wrong.. A google search does imply that XP Home only supports a single processor socket. I was thinking of multicore chips which XP Home does support. But given that you've got P3s I assume you've got two separate chips, so I guess you are out of luck

Yeah, It doesn't matter anyway. This one is just a backup and will be replaced soon, It will go back in the closet until the next mishap.
