We've had over 150 years to figure out the safe transportation of petroleum products, and things still happen. Things will happen with batteries too.

Full basement in the garage?

Not really. It's a low ceiling that requires you to duck, but it's nice storage with power. It is paved. I would have to measure, but I think it's a 5 foot ceiling.
