Would you rather see Wind Turbines or solar farms?

Can you imagine if the media could take photos of 50,000 dead birds a year that the USA oil industry killed, it would be all over the media. Just like a couple hundred oil covered birds were when a rare oil spill took place.

Photos of the 50,000 dead birds on windfarms every single year? Nothing, after all wind farms are "green"

Rooftop solar because the “footprint” is already there + forms air gap/shade for roof …
For large acreage - WIND is more compatible with cattle, crops, etc …
I meant to say wind - local rancher said his cows rub the windmill base … 😜

See as in want to see them on the grid, or right in front of your house?

Personally I don't mind ugly houses with roof top solars or wind turbines in landscapes but I'm sure it will impact property value a bit.
Visually, noise etc....

Any and all options are o.k. by me, as long as they are not in my back yard. I'll be long gone by the time this all gets figured out. Hey, I'm a boomer, what did you youngsters expect? ;)

I was involved with cyclic cellulosic biofuel research (trees, in my case) for 30 years and the logistics of handling the material has always been problematic. Some countries in Europe have operating systems, but much more innovation will be required for it to ever be more than just a tiny dent in energy production (my opinion).

I think it will be prudent to not have all our eggs in one basket, so there is room for all of these innovations.

The local university parking structure solar panels are o.k., as are commercial rooftop building panels. Pasture solar farms = bad, in my opinion.

When you fill your front and back yards completely with solar panels come back and let’s us know how you enjoy your new view.
That’s my plan, 10kw array in the back yard with battery backup. Easy cleaning and maintenance!

There’s a garden in the front yard already 😉

While I am sure we have all seen a picture of a beautiful, rare bird sitting at the base of a wind turbine, is this really a logical answer?

https://www.businessinsider.com/cat...ut 234,000,total bird population, since 1970.
  • Wind turbines kill about 234,000 birds a year, whereas cats kill 2.4 billion.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2014/05/29/bird-deaths-car-crashes/9623931/
A new study shows that crashes with cars and trucks kill as many as 340 million birds on U.S. roads every year — a much higher toll than bird deaths from many other human activities.

I would say wind farms in places they make sense focusing on hard to farm/infertile areas
Followed by solar on top of urban areas - not only making electricity, but cooling the city at the same time
Finally, all backed and primary source being Nuclear
I'm thinking of raptors, migratory birds (Geese, Ducks) and sea birds.

I like them both placed where it makes sense to have them. In my travels I've never been somewhere where a row of wind turbines ruined the landscape. Usually they are in farmland and are pleasing enough, its a landscape shaped by people already.
I wouldn't support them being installed on a large scale in untouched wilderness though.
Solar farms here on good agricultural land is a bit dumb, but I see its cheaper and easier to install them on flatter ground. I'm all for roof top solar on almost any building though... Not on landmark buildings, but other than that, seeing renewable energy infrastructure is nice!

The cows match in the first one near the coast of the state of Victoria in Australia. Second one is somewhere in Queensland Australia I believe.
The last one is near Thunder Bay Ontario on a ridge with several others, its all boreal forest that is harvested regularly, very nice but effected by people and looks better with wind turbines than climate changed enhanced forest fires...

how close to the house are you talking? I have my yard and then a big field behind me. I like a useable back yard but the field behind me could be solar panels. If trees were added as screens it wouldn't even be noticable.

Parking lot solar is ok. I saw that at Cincinnati zoo.. you park in shade and they get electricity you already have to have a parking lot there so the solar isnt too bad.

They did appear to have some bird nesting issues but nothing that cant be fixed.

MSU campus in East Lansing has a lot of parking lot solar.

Fill it all up. Give yourself some room to get in and out of the house. Cut the trees down. Every square foot must be covered.
