There is apparently no market for this, at least I haven't read it discussed here but would an add-pack to replenish the additive-package in oil extend oil life?

This might be useful for the times in the winter when you just don't feel like doing an oil change and when an OCI is due.

I'm sure this is a stupid idea but I think probably dumber ideas have made it to market, why not this?

Depends upon the reason why the oil is due for change. Oxidation, fuel, wear metals? nope. I doubt that add pack depletion besides TBN is a reason to replace in most cases.

Right if oxidation, fuel or wear metals is the problem no additive is going to help that,so the answer is no IMO.

a while back I ve heard about add packs for heavy duty applications like fleet buses or semis...

these vehicles have both by pass and full flow filter system and using add packs help with efficient maintainace..

I am not entirely sure about this but im sure someone can shed more light about the topic...

I guess if you had a Miti-Vac you could evacuate some oil from the dipstick tube and replace with fresh clean oil, and replenish the oil a bit. Just decide how much oil to extract and replace it with fresh oil. A partial oil change I guess.

Hi.

Most of these products enhance your oil, not replenish your oil. If the additives are gone in the original oil, adding an additive pack will be tough to make it "like new" again.

For the 4 bucks or so you spend on an additive pack, go and buy a couple of quarts of API rated oil and add it in. Not only will you replenish your oil's additives, but you will also be introducing fresh "oil" molecules (as in the carbon rings and chains that allow for lubrication and protection).

However, be careful for overfilling. Overfilling the sump by 1 quart is no problem. If you overfill by 2-3 quarts you will put unnecessary stress on the pump.

i have not done an extended oci yet but i plan to work my way up to 10k when my daily commute increases again. i think if you just change the filter and refill whats lost every so often it would help alot

My uncle does this on an old-beater dodge. He consumes 1 QT of oil every 2-3k(at most) and will pull the filter(now 2 Quarts low), and refill with 2 fresh Quarts after replacing the oil filter. He never changes his oil...old beater I can see but it still makes me cringe.

I would personally leave the mixing of oil to the experts they spend millions on research..
Today oil can last 1 year 10,000 miles and more so why not change it when it is due?
