Worn out brake pads

One mm sounds crazy-one long mountain descent, one panic stop, the lining can crack and fall off when it gets that thin. Then metal on metal happens!
1 mm isn't one descent or one panic stop. If pads were that fragile then we'd be doing brake jobs on our cars every month.

Metal on metal is still a good braking surface—it just erodes really fast.

But I had a brake pad delaminate once (it was way thicker than these ones) and there was zip for brakes, until the piston pushed out. I’m not sure how much a sudden 1mm gap would be, but I bet the pedal is going to get uncomfortably close to the floor… sure, one or two pumps and back online, but that’s going to be fun.
